Have to say i thought BT's commentary today was utter tripe!
The bias towards Liverpool was so poor! Id of hated to have been a Leicester fan listening to that!
As a Liverpool supporter, it was still hard to listen to because of the total bias.

I thought the new TV angle was okay but i much preferred the lower one! The new one loses alot of the width & depth perception!

Michael Owen is actually a pretty decent pundit. Makes decent discussion (certainly a lot more able than Savage) and it's just a shame his reputation has been tarnished due to BT throwing him in at the deep end on commentary
He is a very good pundit. Many have that about him. He stinks a commentator and i think BT have finally seen the light on that and are using at in the best place they can do.

Oh God FLT is a bit hit and miss tonight. Hoddle showing he is a decent pundit when not on commentary but the 'banter' between Savage and Humphrey is cringeworthy. I agree with the thread who think Humphrey's got a bit more up himself this season because of the FLT gig.

Tyler and Neville - as usual, outstanding.

Think Carragher only got involved twice during the game itself - which is a good way of doing it.

Also Simon Thomas has been very good too, thought he would struggle on a big game.
Sky's PL's coverage so far this season is better while BT Sport's English coverage is worse

Game of the day is Manchester derby?! Thought had to be a 3pm game? Can't remember ever showing their earlier game (though course previous rights was 5.30 game so little point)

Finally Ian Darke has a game for BT next weekend, not sure which one but the way things were going i would not of put it past Darren Fletcher covering both games.

Also Fletcher tweeted he is commentating on the super bowl final in February so Darke should get the Saturday evening game then...wowww

Your right it was awful tonight, it really all seemed about Savage and Humphrey, almost reached the stage where who could be heard the most with Savage seemingly just wanting an argument for the sake of it...awful viewing.

That is unusual because the rights are for non-live games.

Of course, Sky can repeat their live games but technically they've not exercised their right (and obligation?) to show the full 90 minutes under the "Football First" rights.

Yes maybe one thing BT may of finally got right and use Owen as pundit rather than in the commentary box, does come up with good points and seemingly not afraid to make decent points.

As for the commentary it was really at times a free for all, sorry but Macnanaman i am slowly going off and tonight your right it was Liverpool this Liverpool that etc with Fletcher almost agreeing on entirely everything he said.

Yes, I was surprised to see it as the main game.

You probably can't dispute that it was indeed the game of the day but I expected to see one of the 3pm kick-offs. After all, what do viewers get out of having a 90-minute re-run of the game that they already showed live earlier in the day? Isn't the point to showcase something different?

Would I be right in saying they wouldn't be able to show the evening KO (Liv v Lei) that was shown on BT even if it was a 5-5 draw?

That's right.

The rights are for all games not shown live in the UK. Any game shown live on Sky is also included in the match choice as part of the live contract.

99% sure it will be Everton v Boro.
A. Because Fletcher is covering United in Holland on Thursday night.
B. Because Fletcher is on the majority and best PL games and Watford-Man United trumps Everton-Boro.

The audio on Mowbray's goal call on City's first seemed very odd, like it had been edited. I know editing goal calls is something that can be used on MOTD but didn't sound very good at all.
Mowbray also lacking the big match feel on this one, although these are highlights and he did well at the Euros so I'll cut him some slack.

Any one know why Ian Darke is being so underused, especially on big games for BT Sport?
He is by far the better commentator....

Dont think i would be wrong in saying that Darren Fletcher is now their main commentator, used for all the big games with Darke pushed back to at very best secondary games including Champion League games.

As with most working for BT seemingly they have gone for the younger guy, in my view noway near anything like Darke's caliber of commentry.

Managed to catch the "PL Goal Rush" feed that the PL now offer to international broadcasters, hosted/commented on by John Dykes.

Actually a very good offering - commentary stays on a main game - today was Arsenal v Southampton and they cut away for PL goals/key moments whilst still keeping a smaller screen on the main game. Dykes was pretty good, and in fact preferred his comms to the main international feed with Weaver on.

BT's commentary is terrible, i don't know why they feel they need 3 of them AND an ex ref chipping in every now and then. Also the Liverpool bias is completely over the top on that channel, it's worse than Sky, having so many ex Liverpool players doesn't help. I also don't know why they go silent when that crappy song of Liverpool's comes on, why do they think we want to listen to Liverpool fans singing that depressing song every single time ? They don't do it for any of club.

I also think it's time for John Motson to call it a day. His commentary of Arsenal vs Southampton was one of the worst yet, he failed to keep up with pretty much everything that was happening in the game. Stuttering over people's names, adding a few ooh's and aah's mid way though trying to explain what happened about 10 seconds ago. He's been declining for a fair few years now and he's only getting worse.

If DS had been around in the late 70s we would have been saying the same about John Motson and David Coleman - "plus ca change"!!!

Odd that Sky Sports News used Guy Havord for this match.
David Craig was the reporter at the Derby -v- Newcastle match.

Not kidding, those were the days!

Even now i seemed to always think both Motson and Davies got bigger games during the season than Coleman apart from the few Cup finals he did and off course the 2 World Cup final's.

Well social media was buzzing during and after the game and game and none of it was very complimentary to BT's coverage and yes there bias towards Liverpool was extreme to say the least at times.

I would agree with that although Fletcher is very much "part or the Saturday evening team"

Oh and the majority you should change to "all"

Unbelievable even CL/EL biggest games Ian darke not commentator. Can't help but feel sorry for him. BT not treating him well
To be fair the Leicester game he is covering is one of the clubs biggest games in it's history with i dare say a lot of interest in the game itself.

Yes the Arsenal game which Fletcher is covering is probably the stand out tie of the round next to Celtic but even i, if i had the choice, would of picked Leicester next.

As for BT not treating him well, the post's on the subject speaks for itself.
