Game of the day is Manchester derby?! Thought had to be a 3pm game? Can't remember ever showing their earlier game (though course previous rights was 5.30 game so little point)
Sky must've been chasing ratings or something, though in their defence, the fact that Celtic v Rangers was being played at roughly the same time as the Manchester derby was probably an influence in their decision. There may have been live viewers of the Old Firm match that may have wanted to see the Manchester derby as well. |

After reading all the comments about the Liverpool bias, I think it was one of those games where Robbie Savage should have replaced Hoddle in the commentary box.

BT's commentary is terrible, i don't know why they feel they need 3 of them AND an ex ref chipping in every now and then. Also the Liverpool bias is completely over the top on that channel, it's worse than Sky, having so many ex Liverpool players doesn't help. I also don't know why they go silent when that crappy song of Liverpool's comes on, why do they think we want to listen to Liverpool fans singing that depressing song every single time ? They don't do it for any of club.

Just to touch back on Premier League Tonight, I think Savage summed up the big problem when he said something like, 'No this is your show Jake,' when Jake suggested they could re-title the show 'Humphrey and Sav.' Essentially, PLT is Jake's own football show. He's been given his own show by BT, following on from the match day coverage. It has clearly given him a big ego boost and BT seem delighted for him to take the centre stage alongside the pundits. On Sky, David Jones and co are very good in their roles because they ask the right questions and respectfully take a back seat to the ex-pros. Humphrey talks like he's best mates with the ex-pros, that his opinion matters, and as has been pointed out, he generally doesn't ask very insightful questions, only asks whether the pundits agree with his point of view. People complain about Fletcher but he doesn't hinder the coverage like Jake does. He actually seems like a very grounded bloke and has proven himself as a more than adequate presenter on Fletch and Sav.

Yes, I was surprised to see it as the main game.
You probably can't dispute that it was indeed the game of the day but I expected to see one of the 3pm kick-offs. After all, what do viewers get out of having a 90-minute re-run of the game that they already showed live earlier in the day? Isn't the point to showcase something different? Would I be right in saying they wouldn't be able to show the evening KO (Liv v Lei) that was shown on BT even if it was a 5-5 draw? It's different with Match of the Day, of course. People sometimes complain that they lead with the games that have been shown live, but of course they've been shown live on a different channel and a large percentage of the audience won't have seen them because they don't have the channel. And in addition, the aim of Match of the Day is to summarise the entire day's Premier League coverage and standalone on its own. But with Game of the Day, for a start you're not guaranteed to get the game of the day because it might be the BT one which they can't show. Indeed the fact they can't make every match available means it clearly isn't being used as a standalone service, and people generally watch it because it's the first chance to see a 3pm game. Indeed it was particularly odd to do it this week when there were loads of 3pm games, many of which you could have made a case for appearing in that slot.* It's all very well saying it was a lunchtime kick-off and clashed with the Old Firm match, but you could have recorded it. Indeed as mentioned Sky can only show one minute of BT matches, and vice versa, and not on the day itself I don't think. Hence why they can also only show a minute of them on Goals on Sunday as well. If anyone wants to be on Barclays Premier League Watch this season, by the way, you'll note Jake mentioned the B-word at the end of the Liverpool match last night. * I mentioned it on another thread, but this weekend, and the one in two weeks, are probably my favourite of the season as virtually all the big teams play on Saturday and there are loads of 3pm games, which is great because it means Five Live and Final Score are much more exciting, and Match of the Day can genuinely cover the whole story. I always enjoy that, and I'm glad it's continuing in the new contract despite the increased number of live games. One of the reason why I'm glad West Ham are out of the Europa League is because I think the more games on Saturday the better. |

BT obsession with Liverpool and the anfield atmosphere in particular is rather bizarre.
They appeared to spe d t as much time in commentary yesterday talking about the new stand and the atmosphere than they did the game it's self |

Liverpool v Leicester was the first game I've watched on BT this season, and I'll echo what various people have said about the graphics BT are using this season. They're very nice.
Jake Humphrey's Barclays habit feels like it's going to be a hard one to shake, given that we're well into the season now. I think everyone else has largely managed though. |

Unusual but good goal call from Daniel Mann yesterday. ' that's venomous'
Prutton agreed, almost seemed at a loss how to initially describe it himself |

It has clearly given him a big ego boost and BT seem delighted for him to take the centre stage alongside the pundits.
I don't know why you'd think Jake's ego would now spiral out of control given that in the last five years he's been the main presenter of Formula One on British television, going to all the races and interviewing all the major figures, he's anchored the 2012 Olympic Games and has been the main presenter on a major channel launch, fronting big Premier League games. All of those are substantially bigger gigs than linking some minor show on BT watched by hardly anyone which involved linking clips from press conferences and reading out tweets. He was probably playing to bigger audiences on CBBC. If he thinks this will make him a star, heaven help him. I mean there is a general point to be made about his presentational style. I have always found him a bit eager to please, but it reminds me of someone saying that whenever they listened to Colin Murray interviewing anyone, they always felt he was thinking "Please be my mate, please be my mate". There is a bit of a thin line between being relaxed in the presence of your guests, and looking as if you're more concerned with impressing upon your viewer your friendship with them. But this is surely not something Jake's only just done now. |

Why ? there was nothing wrong with what i said. I personally can't stand the song and i don't see why the commentary goes quiet every time Liverpool fans start singing. I would be a bit more understanding if they did it for every club, but they don't.

There are alot of things i cannot stand about many clubs, their fans and supporter songs, but i don't feel the need to act like a child on a forum calling a song crappy and taking a childish swipe at other clubs' supporters!

I don't know what atmosphere they were talking about to be honest, from the sound of it, there was no atmosphere. It was really quite in the stadium in yesterdays game, you could hear everything the players were saying it was that quiet.
My favourite bit was right at the start of the coverage when Jake Humphrey said that the completion of the new stand meant that Liverpool now have "no excuses." I mean, it looks nice and it'll bring in a bit of extra revenue, but it's hardly going to bankroll a huge wave of transfers on its own, and it's not going like the old stand was holding the players back. |
