One particular variation I remember is when Lineker missed CL matchweek 2 last season after his mother sadly died. Jake moved up to main studio host, whilst Lindsay did the second game (on-site on the Tuesday, in studio on the Wednesday): http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...postcount=1720

OK, yes, thanks.

But I'm really just trying to establish how often anyone else was used instead of Humphrey.

Obviously the above very sad situation and also the FA Cup clash on BBC were a different type of scenario where Humphrey moved to number 1 so someone else had to come in as number 2.

Uwe Rosler and Richard Dunne with Matt Smith at the Etihad, although it looks like the game will be postponed.
City's game confirmed off.

Manchester United's Premier League International Cup game also under threat (lightning and thunder very visible; loss of power).

Manchester has basically shut down at the moment

OK, thanks - but how many games did Humphrey miss?

I think Lineker did all main games on both Tue and Wed (except one which clashed with FA Cup on BBC).

I thought Humphrey had then done the vast majority of 2nd games on both Tue and Wed?

But maybe not - especially on Wed if preparing for EL on Thur?
Hi mate, Humphrey didn't miss a second rated match last season, he was covering every round, i did mention the other day i found it strange he wasn't covering a game, time will tell in round 2 but even so i thought it strange but in my view Matt Smith is a vastly superior presenter to Humphrey.

In answer to another question i did mention that Humphrey's next game is covering Man Utd thur.

Heard game may now be played tomorrow, presume it will stay on ESPN if it does happen tomorrow?

I think Jake mentioned he would be in Feynoord to host the United match in the Europa League so not sure as to whether BT would have him do a game the night before.
I don't see why not - if they're not doing the Man U game from the stadium (and I don't think they generally did in the group stage last season), he'll be doing both from London, so it'll be exactly the same as what Gary Lineker is doing.

I did like the bit at the start of the coverage when Gary walked around the studio and pointed to the shows going ahead in the other studios and on the monitor. I know big massive studios can be rather pointless but it looked very impressive and there is a purpose to it in that context.

Team are handing the situation very well, when was a CL game last postponed?
Happened a couple of times, I think. I remember a Newcastle match being called off in 2002/03, when ITV had the lot. It was on ITV2 and I remember Jon Champion talking at great length over pictures of people peering from under umbrellas. That was played the next day, because it was also a Tuesday match. I don't know what would happen if a Wednesday game was called off.

Of course fifteen years ago almost to the day Man U and Celtic's games were called off due to 9/11, and played a month later, when everyone else was in the League Cup. And in turn Man U's League Cup fixture was crammed in a month later, on the Monday before an international break and 24 hours after they'd played a Premier League game. Imagine if this forum was around then, people would be going mad.

If the City game is tomorrow, they'll probably need another co-commentator with McManaman on the Leicester coverage. I'd expect Drury with a Trevor Francis or maybe Danny Mills. Richard Dunne should still be available and you'd expect the same of Rosler also.

In terms of production, the Premier League and Europa League are by Sunset+Vine, while the Champions League is done in-house.

But I'm not sure that would dictate the on-air talent.
I think EL has gone in-house from this season. PL still S&V, of course.

A couple of belated comments on Sky's coverage of Celtic v Rangers.

After the match, they showed a montage of sights and sounds from the game... just crowd noise - no music track. For example, hearing the crowd as the teams came out onto the pitch and for each individual goal. It was very cool I thought, I'd like to see more of that kind of thing.

Also, in the post-match interview, Brendan Rodgers took exception to something the reporter said. He said "Leigh who?" (referring to Leigh Griffiths) and Rodgers told him not to be disrespectful. The guy didn't mean anything by it, I don't know why Rodgers didn't let that one pass. The presenter in the studio even made a remark afterwards as if to say "hey, he was only joking y'know".

Now the City game has been confirmed for 7:45pm Wednesday, it surely won't just be additional co-comms that BT need, but an entirely different crew, as they'll be host broadcaster for both that game and Spurs at Wembley?

I only watched the last 15 mins of the Arsenal game but Fletcher made huge mistake I thought when saying Arsenal v Chelsea was on a Friday night when it is actually on BT on the Sat night. Surely with it being on BT he would know this, I know could of been a slip of the tongue but stood out for me.

Don't think Mowbray is doing a game tonight for BT but is doing a game for the world feed which means it will be interesting to see who commentates tonight for the Spurs game.

We know It's Jenas on co-commentary but the commentator is an interesting question, won't be Fletcher as he is doing the Man United game, won't be Mowbray as he is doing a game for the world feed tonight, Won't be Darke as he is at the Leicester game with Savage and it won't be Drury as he is at the City game tonight. Think it might be Adam Summerton doing the game as he retweeted a video of Kyle Walker singing to the UCL anthem.

Andy May is the reporter at the Leicester game and Lynsey Hipgrave is the presenter at the Spurs game at Wembley.

Adam Summerton appears to be alongside Don Hutchison on Legia Warsaw v Borussia Dortmund on BT Sport X4.

Interesting, very confusing to guess the main commentator...

EDIT: Jon Champion is on commentary for the Spurs game.
