were can i get access to the "As Olympic Broadcasting Services Feed" is euro vision doing a service this time? are all the feeds English ?
Their multi-event and multi-nation website that ran for a few Olympics was a brilliant service. Eurovision Sports Live is a really good website (such as for the recent European Athletics Champioships) but it's unlikely to ever come back for the Olympics though, as that is now a Discovery/Eurosport property. As for football commentators moonlighting on other sports at Olympics, Tony Gubba would get the odd burst of water polo, Alan Parry did lots of athletics, Gerald Sinstadt used to do ice hockey and rowing (not at the same time), Ron Jones hockey, Alan Green rowing, and Barry Davies did practically everything. Rugby's Nigel Starmer-Smith also did hockey for many years, but missed out on the famous 1988 Olympic final as he had to return to England for the start of the rugby season so Barry Davies got the nod instead. ITV had a football commentator on that hockey final themselves. It's not unusual as a lot of the time, these sports would not have established commentators and football commentators are known for their versatility. |

Not when it comes to the modern pentathlon they're not! ![]() I was asked to do table tennis once on BBC Radio....but unfortunately I couldn't see the table, which made it quite difficult. ![]() Enjoyed snooker commentary with Alex Higgins and Steve Davis, which I think I've mentioned before, and even a bit of bowls on local radio! |

Sorry to be a total pedant but I imagine there are a few pundits around with a similarly impressive trophy haul to Gary. That's more a reflection though that some of the pundits that appear these days were extremely successful more than anything - and the fact a few would've played in the same teams as Gary.
For example whatever anyone's opinion on the BT pundits most definetely pass the 'show us your medals' test. Carragher appearing on co-commentary just seems a bit odd to me - especially since Sky already have Quinn, Smith, Provan and Hinchcliffe in that position. Add in Neville possibly returning too and it suggests one of the current co-commentators may lose out - even with the extra 10 games. It'd be a bit of a kick in the teeth for Alan Smith were he again to have someone overtake him in the co-commentary ranks and I feel it'd also be harsh on Andy Hinchcliffe if his PL appearances were reduced to fit in Carragher on commentary. Have to say on BT that they really do have a good line-up of presenters. Lineker, Hipgrave, Richardson and Smith is a very strong line-up. The issue for me is Jake Humphrey - who is very prominent on some of the coverage and doesn't offer as much in my view as the four mentioned (never mind the 'That's the way we do things on BT Sport' stuff) . I agree with you on it being somewhat a incongruous time to try Jamie Carragher on commentary. If Neville returns they could always rota it in such a way that one is in the studio one weekend whilst the other co-commentates and swap it round the following weekend. I agree though it would be a shame if Alan Smith was heard on less big games because he is exceptional in the role and I also agree it would be harsh on Andy Hinchcliffe who did a good job last season. As I say my immediate reaction was that perhaps Carragher will gain greater prominence than Neville if they are uncertain as to whether he will be back for good. Quote:
Well done to Manish, it's a bit like Jon Champion in a way - you can say it's a shame they're not on a major UK broadcaster anymore but they're doing big games for a huge audience, much bigger than they would have got had they been number two at the Beeb or ITV. My point was from a viewers point of a view, it's a shame we may not see as much as him. At various times the number one job has come up at ITV/Setanta/ESPN and BT and I think he'd of been suited to anyone of them. It was also strange how the BBC seemingly sidelined him effectively more and more after he took over The Football League Show in the place of Walker/Mohammed/Chapman/Logan/Murray etc. The Premier League show would of been an ideal chance to give him a regular slot again but they decided to give it to someone I can imagine to be regularly absent due to other anchoring duties. Do we have any ideas when that is likely to start? |

They don't just parachute them in at the last minute though. To take your example Agnew has known he was going to be covering Equestrian for basically 4 years so he has been going to events and getting to know the competitors and the sport.
Seems like a very sensible way to cover the niche sports to me. |

Guy Mowbray and Owen Hargreaves on commentary
You'd have imagined one of the BT staffers like Fletcher, Darke or Rae would've done it instead or even someone like Drury or Champion. That said they've had Jonathan Pearce doing offtube French league games for example so it's not unprecedented. Says a lot that I'm not too surprised that Hargreaves is both on punditry and co-commentary. He was an absolute workaholic at the end of last season. The BT Box once again adding to the coverage too - just showing Mourinho for no apparent reason. I like the idea behind the Box but BT really do execute it badly by overusing it when it's not needed. |

Do wonder if Michael Owen's role at BT might be limited this season. Might be wrong but he'd usually be tweeting about the upcoming season on BT I would have thought but as of yet, nothing.
Could be Hargreaves and McManaman on commentary duties and let's not forget they'll probably bring in one more fresh face before the season starts. Also interesting to see if they ditch Hoddle from commentary. They quite literally ditched him from their CL coverage after the last 16. |

Had lunch with Darkie yesterday and you'll be pleased to know he confirmed he is on the first BT rota of the new season. A few bits of gossip emerged that I won't be putting on the forum, ![]() and lots of banter between us, of course, with fellow diner Garry Richardson. |
