Does anyone take Jake Humprey seriously? His opening line on Manchester City not winning against Everton was "Your not expecting them to get beat by Spurs" Does he actually watch football? Has he seen the performances of Spurs? I'm not even a Spurs fan and I didn't expect to see City beat Spurs although I do admit I had them down on my coupon for a draw but wasn't surprised by Spurs winning.
The tragedy is that Jake Humprey can't be removed nor his band of pundits because I belive it is his production company that produces the show for BT. A bit like Coultard producing the CH4 F1 show. It seems it is more about mates than people who can do the job. Hargreaves and he isn't the only one never stops talking when in the commentary box. What was the old saying by Barry Davis? "let the pictures do the talking" |

Humprey's (sic) production company, Whisper Films, is not involved. Perhaps Barry Davis (sic) would have been better saying something about letting the facts do the talking rather than uninformed hyperbole. |

Anyway, i know it's only Charlie reporting on this but if true alarm bell's will be ringing considering how much money they ploughed into the Prem.
It would make you wonder how they could sustain any kind of massive bid in a few years time. Football is still the number one sport by absolutely miles, and as mentioned the Olympics and other sport will have had an impact on ratings at the start of this season. * I remember at the time, someone pointing out that Man U lost on Boxing Day 2002 and then didn't lose again that season en route to the title, then Arsenal didn't lose a single game the next season and Chelsea lost one the next, so in two and a half years the champions lost one game between them. You can at least say the Premier League is more competitive now. Quote:
Yeah spot on there BFGArmy, the TV matches were released the other day and BT Sport have just one match between Sat 17th Dec 2016 and Sat 14th Jan 2017, the sole game being Liverpool v Man City on New Years' Eve, meanwhile, in the same period, Sky Sports have 15 Premier League matches live, as well as EFL matches too, including the usual '10 in 10' between 9th Dec and 18th Dec (8 Championship & 2 League 1 games)
That said though, there is the FA Cup 3rd Round to fit in between those dates, and I'm sure BT will have 3 or 4 matches from that competition in early January. I am reminded of Setanta's last season, mind, when the week after the FA Cup third round, they genuinely had very little football because it was Scottish Cup weekend and all the European leagues were on their winter break, so all they had was Stoke vs Liverpool in the Premier League, and Steve Bower did it so everyone else could go on holiday. |

Agree with various posts above - far too early to say about PL viewing figures and before even starting any analysis we would need to know exactly what the reported figures actually relate to - ie is any of it just longer intros / outros.
IF match averages are down on a like for like basis then as said above there was the Olympics / Paralympics and also not mentioned yet there was the Ryder Cup clashing in week 7. However I can think of 3 other points which could adversely affect Sky's average PL ratings: 1) Move from Sat 5.30 to Sat 12.30 slot. 2) More live PL games - 116 to 126 - 9% more games - if everyone watched the same amount of PL in total then the average rating per game would fall (by 9%). 3) Change in composition of PL - two big clubs relegated (Newcastle and Villa) - replaced by much "smaller" clubs. It was noted recently how well the Villa v Newcastle FL game rated - this should mean a slight overall movement of viewing from PL to FL. Each of the above may seem quite minor factors on their own but taken together they all add up. BT would also be adversely affected by points 2) and 3) though it would obviously gain by switching to the later Sat slot. (Arguably not affected by 2) as much where just filling in what were blank weekends - but they do now have some doubleheaders). |

Arry is on the Celebrity Chase tonight. For someone who said he was illiterate it will be interesting to see if he can read the questions.

Lots more green ticks in the system, thanks everyone.
Few more queries though: St Mirren v Falkirk - 01/10/2016 - BBC ALBA Any advance on Calum Mcaulay being the presenter and Alex O'Henley the commentator. Was this it? Hibernian v Dundee United - 02/10/2016 - Sky Once again, no reporter recorded - which may or may not be correct. Luke Shanley was the reporter at Hibernian v Dundee United. Sky Sports had all their regulars on SPFL matches, for this match as well. Also: Jonathan Oakes was the reporter at Huddersfield v Sheffield Wednesday. Greg Whelan was the reporter at Middlesbrough v Watford. |

On paper, Sky's SS line up, Le Tiss, Jamie & Quinn* on co-comm is no worse than some of BT's efforts. The line up is improved when you get to the two commentators and Hinchcliffe.
* I don't mind Quinn in the studio but rarely as a co-comm Read a few moans about weaker Super Sundays on Twitter, can anyone explain why Sky has weakened their best time slot? I've rarely looked at the Sun 4pm fixtures and been interested in them. Although looking at the next few, the quality of games does seem to pick up a bit! |
