Have BT dropped Ray Stubbs? Havent seen him part of their coverage for a long time
These days, Ray is a permanent fixture on talkSPORT 2, where he presents a live programme between 2-4pm each weekday. This is in addition to the Sunday 6-9pm Press Pass show he hosts with a panel of sports journalists on talkSPORT's primary channel, with him having replaced Des Kelly as the presenter of this a few years back. |

I don't think BT Sport have formally "dropped" Ray Stubbs, but he seemed to be phased out of their live football coverage around the time they stopped doing studio-based weeknight shows like Football Tonight, with the likes of Des Kelly and Lynsey Hipgrave moving from hosting that sort of show to being live match reporters more frequently. As such, I expect to see Ray back on BT Sport in January to host their BDO World Darts Championship coverage.

Have to say I've enjoyed most of BT's coverage the last few days. However, while they're not alone in this by any means, can we please stop asking pundits about 'selfies'/'team photos'? Please. |

Indeed whenever I see BT these days, it seems to be one of Des Kelly or Reshmin Chowdhury as the reporter (with Matt Smith and Lynsey Hipgrave sometimes doing the role too). Not seen Stubbs much if at all.

Credit where it is due however and 'Arry Redknapp's little speech in regards to how England now bores him was a refreshing, honest piece of punditry (after the Palace v West Ham game). He gets quite a bit of stick but I guess one thing Redknapp isn't afraid to do is speak his mind and he got quite a lot of praise on twitter for those particular views. |

Wednesday 19th October - ITV
UEFA Champions League Highlights Mark Pougatch presented alongside Roy Keane and Lee Dixon FC Barcelona v Manchester City - Clive Tyldesley, with Gabriel Clarke conducting interviews Arsenal v PFC Ludogorets Razgrad - Sam Matterface, with Leon Mann conducting interviews Celtic v Borussia Monchengladbach - Joe Speight, with Raman Bhardwaj conducting interviews Leicester City v FC Kobenhavn (Tuesday) - Joe Speight, with Steve Clamp conducting interviews Bayer 04 Leverkusen v Tottenham Hotspur (Tuesday) - David Stowell, with ? conducting interviews Round-ups - Richard Henwood (Groups D & H) and Sue Thearle (Groups B & F) Mark Pougatch voiced brief highlights from the matches in the groups involving English teams. Thought I'd confirm that and the usual presentation details, even though mightymillie has beaten me to most of the information, including the interviewers at Celtic and Leicester who weren't credited on-air by Pougatch - Raman Bhardwaj and Steve Clamp are sports correspondents from STV and ITV Central respectively. They also took post-match interviews from Germany, although I'm not sure who did them. Sky Sport Deutschland were the host broadcaster. |

I watched the Barca game via FS1 and it was Tyler and Robson on comms. First time I have listened to a full game with Robson on it. Would need to listen/watch another one but first thoughts was that he was decent. Made some interesting points and seemed to work well with Tyler (know they have done a lot together for world feed)

Steve McManaman is getting on my nerves, Fletch.
I thought it would be a long time before anything was as bad as Tyler Monday night but Fletcher probably was, biased and wrong. |

Last night was the first time i have heard a Darren Fletcher TV commentary for about 2 years. He really has improved. He was very good last night. I didnt see any signs of the 100mph Fletcher that is sometimes written about on here. Instead he was articulate and allowed McManaman plenty of time to make his points. The only gripe was the Fletch calling. But that aside Fletcher was really good, surprisingly good. He and McManaman really conveyed the game well. I doubt we will see Harry Redknapp on for a little bit now after what has happened with his wife. Hopefully she recovers soon. Quote:

It's now been a week since the data hub was launched, during which time data has been added for 104 matches! Thanks for all contributions thus far.
As promised, now that there's a substantial amount of data to play with, I have updated the stats page. This page will naturally evolve over time, but let me know if you have any ideas or anything in particular you would like to see there. Another new addition is a page which lists all previous parts of this thread. It seems we can't go back any further than part 5 but hopefully this is of use to people who might want to look anything up from a while back. Best I can do considering this forum's search function doesn't really work at all! Links - 2016/17 Stats - Football Commentators Thread Archive |

He may have improved. But it's rather embarrassing for BT that Fletcher is still a poorer commentator than many of the other commentators on their channel, yet remains their number one.

Thanks for this The Difference. I recall Stubbs being part of the BDO Coverage but i wasnt sure if he had made any recent football appearances. I didnt know about his TalkSPORT commitments, it makes more sense that he isnt on BT as much with so much radio work.
I'm not exactly sure when his show started, but talkSPORT 2 only launched in March and for its first three months on-air it was broadcasting cricket commentaries during the daytime on a near-daily basis, so he'll have become a regular presenter on there at some point during this summer. By the end of last season, he was doing very little for BT Sport, so to expand his radio commitments when the chance to host a daily talkSPORT 2 show arose won't have required him to sacrifice any TV commitments. I would imagine talkSPORT will allow Ray to have a week or so off to work on BT Sport's BDO World Darts Championship coverage in January - they always allowed Colin Murray this during his three years with them. |

It looks like BT have lowered the channel DOG to line up with the (ridiculously low) score DOG.
It makes it look a little less untidy. |

My favourite commentators are Tyler and Darke (and Wilson though he does far fewer live games) precisely because of their general chat which, for me, provides a much more rounded and interesting viewing experience.
It's also why I'm glad Sky haven't dropped Parry. If you compare him to Leslie then sure, Leslie is much sharper and makes far fewer mistakes etc. But he doesn't have the rounded, broader broadcasting skills that Parry has. To some extent I suspect it's a generational thing. I would imagine the likes of Tyler and Darke rate much more highly with older viewers than they do with younger viewers. Of course, when BSB, as was, was setting up, they deliberately wanted to change the style of commentary, by modelling it on the American style and making it much more of a conversation, rather than one voice talking for 99% of the time. They deliberately wanted the commentator and co-commentator to have a rapport and work together, and to that end asked Andy Gray to get involved in choosing them - and he recommended Martin Tyler because he'd worked with him before and got on well, but he was already their first choice. Sometimes it does go a bit too far in the other direction, I think - Clive Tyldesley is the obvious example, I think. And I do like Martin Tyler, but it is certainly the case that he talks a lot during matches. Certainly he often talks about interesting things, but it's a bit like John Motson, he can sometimes add too many stats and anecdotes and if a game is very boring, as was the case on Monday, it can sometimes sound a bit desperate. |

Thursday 20th October - ITV
UEFA Europa League Highlights Mark Pougatch presented alongside Tim Sherwood and Iain Dowie Manchester United v Fenerbahce - Sam Matterface Internazionale v Southampton - Joe Speight, with Reshmin Chowdhury (as BT Sport) conducting interviews Dundalk v Zenit Saint Petersburg - Mark Scott Round-ups - Tom Skippings and Sue Thearle Mark Pougatch voiced the other games from the English teams' groups, while Sue Thearle handled the other match in Dundalk's group. I'm guessing Sam Matterface conducted the interviews at Old Trafford, while ITV didn't take any from the Tallaght Stadium. |
