Now TV subscription payment to Sky TV?
This is a query on behalf of a friend. He tells me he bought a Now TV set-top box from Sainsbury's for about £19. He "enrolled", as he put it, with Now TV, but found, when he first switched the box on, that he had to subscribe to Sky TV, and pay £9.99. per month.
When he bought the box, he thought it would enable him to purchase and view old TV programmes that had been screened previously by ITV, BBC, etc. Could anyone who has one of these Now TV boxes comment on the "running" cost and the availability of old programmes like "Heartbeat" and "The Bill". Thanks.

The NowTV box is both a subscription service from Sky (http://www.nowtv.com) and also an interface with apps for BBC IPlayer and other apps. If the programs you want to watch are on Sky the you have to purchase a "Pass". Passes are available for Sky TV programs, Sky Cinema and Sky Sports. There are varyious options available, see link above. The box will operate on the free apps without the need to purchase a pass.

To watch "old" programmes they would first need to have been on one of the current ITV channels in the last 30 days. I can see that Heartbeat is on ITV3 but no sign of The Bill.
There is no need to pay, unless they also want ITV Encore which is included in the £6.99 entertainment pass. |

Do the Sky channels stream over the Internet like BT TV and Talk Talk?

Now TV will offer various live streams from their Entertainment, Movies or Sports channels. (requires subscription) The BBC offer live channels for all their normal channels, and special events (such as the Olympics) for free And the ITV Hub also has live streams. There will be a new Now TV box coming later this year where free-to-air channels will also be available via a terrestrial aerial, but this is not available yet. |
