Google had a massive head start, but in my experience Apple is catching up very fast. In fact, on my last 2 city breaks around Europe we found Apple was more accurate for finding businesses. They've licensed a few third party databases so you might be surprised.
Does Apple Maps allow you to report missing places / errors, etc.? This is one of the real strengths of Google Maps I have found, the kind of "crowdsourcing"-ish aspect. If Apple Maps allows the same then this may also account for why they are catching up with Google.

Yes, you can "Report a problem". I've added a place using this before.

It's not quite as easy as Google's version though.

Yeah you can report a problem, and they notify you when it's been fixed.
