The soaps today dont have the iconic characters that we had in the eighties and nineties, and it is hard to see the any iconic characters in the next few years. The closest a character has become iconic in recent years, would probably be Janine, who has not been in the show for a while, and at the moment you could say Phil, Dot or even Ken Barlow are iconic, but there is no else that i think could become as iconic as them

Which soap characters do you think have got the potential of being iconic

Probably as far as the modern era of soapland is concerned I would say the likes of Becky McDonald, Kylie Platt, Stacey Slater, Shirley Carter and Aaron Livesy could possibly be argued as ones.

I use the term iconic very loosely in regards to soap characters.

In terms of characters actually only introduced this decade, I would only really look at mick and Linda that could be seen as potential iconic, they will definetely be remembered after they've gone for sure.

It's quite a shame I can't think of any other characters post 2010 in EE or corrie that are really that memorable

Without doubt I would say the young Platts, Sarah & David!! Who knows, maybe even Bethany in time as I see a big Corrie future for both character & actress if she can possibly be persuaded to stick around, which is sadly probably doubtful!!

Provided they keep his complex & interesting character going I can actually see Todd becoming an iconic gay character in a way that Sean probably wouldn't as he is much more one dimensional!!

Lady Di. Rolly, Little Willie and Well 'Ard have held iconic dog status for too long. Time to move over.

Iconic, in as not being a very good actor, despite playing the same character for almost 56 years.

If you getting paid for being shit and no-ones prepared to sack you, why ****ing give it up!

On another note, I'd love to know what dirt Bill Roache had on the early producers in order to keep his job that long.
