Hello
I have been with Sky for a while but the cost has been increasing exponentially and I am looking at alternatives for the tv service ( I have internet and phone too).

I have seen information on Now TV. I like it because it includes all the Sky channels ( although it doesn't include my other fav channel - Universal) and has pause and rewind. The downside for me is that you can't record and I record alot of programmes now.

My question from anyone that went from Sky Plus to Now tv is simply.. how did you manage the transition? Is it as bad as you thought it would be?

Perhaps someone can recommend another one? I did look at FreeView Plus but it does not include the Sky Channels

Thanks

We make extensive use of NOW TV's "My TV" (watchlists) feature to keep track of the TV & movies that we are watching, want to watch and also what we have already watched.

Wasn't as big a deal as we thought it might be to go from recording to streaming.

The alternatives are Talk Talk and Virgin
Be warned Talk Talk is going down the pan according to other Posters on DS,
so I would consider Virgin if you can get it in your area

I cancelled Sky at the tail end of last year and went for Now TV with some movies and entertainment passes on the cheap. I found it easy enough to use, however, like you said, the lack of recording facility, meant I had to make sure I watched the episodes of the programmes, either live when they were shown or within the 30 day time frame. Some shows had the boxsets available but the current shows would only have 4 or 5 available at any one time.
For a cheaper alternative to sky that still allows you to watch the programmes you would otherwise enjoy on the main sky channels, it's a good service.. It's definitely what we will use every Christmas now for movies, but I enjoyed being able to record the programmes and watch them at my leisure without having a time limit.

I've since went back to Sky having missed the recording feature, but will probably be cancelling again once my 12 months are up as it's just far too expensive without a deal, and can live without it even though I did miss it.

We did this month just over a month ago.

It's fine - you get used to just watching on demand instead of from your recordings. I save my favourite programmes in 'my tv' so I can find them easily and just remember the stuff on iplayer etc I need to catch up on.

Not as convenient as a sky box no - but a damned sight cheaper! (and smaller!)

I kept Sky for phone and broadband but dumped the TV. Haven't had any problems of note, really. Already used NowTV for the past couple of years for films, on and off, so was already used to it.

Just grab a free trial, or a cheap box, and try it out asap. Nothing to lose, really.

I have just done exactly this, as we have Netflix & Amazon Prime only thing I may go for with the Sports package on Now TV...

If you can afford to spend a little bit more then buy a Roku 2 (look out for flash sale price reductions on Amazon from time to time). You can then have NOW TV and Amazon and Netflix (plus BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My 5, PLEX etc etc) all on one little streaming box.

I went one further and bought a Roku 3 for the bedroom - you can plug a pair of headphones into the remote for quiet watching. An excellent piece of kit,
