To throw in a more modern addition, "Plug In Baby" by Muse has an absolutely awesome riff.

As a guitarist myself my favourite are:

"Thunderstruck", "Back In Black" and "Riff Raff" by AC/DC
"Since You Been Gone" and "Stargazer" - Rainbow
"Rock You Like A Hurricane" - The Scorpions
"The Trooper" and "Dance Of Death" - Iron Maiden (They have so, so many good riffs though)
"Still Of The Night" - Whitesnake
"Black Water" and "Love Walked In" - Thunder
"The Boys Are Back In Town" - Thin Lizzy
"Hole In My Pocket" - Europe
"Blind Man" and "Soul Machine" - Black Stone Cherry
"Stealing Thunder", "Fire At Will" and "Shoot From The Hip"- The Amorettes
"Walk This Way" - Aerosmith
"Paradise City" and "Nightrain" - Guns N Roses
"Open My Eyes" and "Electric Man" - Rival Sons
"The Sentinel" and "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" - Judas Priest
"NIB", "War Pigs" and "Heaven and Hell" - Black Sabbath
"Ghost" and "Anastasia" - Slash
"Kickstart My Heart" - Motley Crue
"White Wedding" and "Dancing to Myself" - Billy Idol
"Stand Up For Rock 'N' Roll", "Runnin' Wild" and "Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast" - Airbourne
"Crazy Train", "Mr Crowley" and "Bark At The Moon" - Ozzy Osbourne
"Gloryhole" and "Eyes of the Panther" - Steel Panther

Some of those are predominantly chords, but they're still just astounding imo.

I have to say i was really thinking of guitar solos.

Blister On The Moon by Taste is a stunning combination of riffs and guitar runs.

Still don't know what the hell the lyrics are all about though.

I would say a riff is a simple repeated pattern rather than a complex solo. Most of the examples in this thread are riffs, little tunes within a song that you can sing or hum along with.

There are several great guitar moments in Wayward Son (Kansas).

Especially the awesome riff at 2mins 48 seconds.
