The whole conversation is grotesque.

No problem with gays but not those who force it?

Bisexuals are just gay people that can't own up?

Utterly, utterly grotesque.

Probably like most gay men, his only experience of bisexuals are those who have a preference for men, so it's easy to believe that bisexuals are really just gay.

I think the logical reality is that bisexuals who prefer women mostly live as straight men, and therefore have almost no visibility so it's easy to assume they don't actually exist.

Biggins, and others, don't believe that bisexuals actually exist, but are either closeted gays or people trying to be 'trendy' (despite the fact that homophobia still exists). Its upsetting and annoying, and is one of the things that I think splits generations. Younger people seem to be more open about sexuality and most would accept that bisexuality exists, as would homosexuality (and most would also accept asexuality, and possibly even pansexuality, demisexuality etc.).

I'm bisexual, and my girlfriend knows I'm bisexual. There's no distrust or a lack of honesty from either party.

Shocking comment. He's speaking out against a minority.

Choose a team!!! Kidding.

Maybe he did mean that, but whatever it was it was a very stupid comment to make. And very damaging because there already is this horrible view that bisexuals are greedy, or confused. He should know better.

biggins spends a lot of his time in the industry ( theatre, media, etc) where young and old mingle. He has no excuse to be so ignorant.

Liverpool!

It's a horribly archaic view point for sure but one I'd expect from that unpleasant old dinosaur.

oh yes im aware of this dont get me wrong but sadly most people who are not bisexual would never date a bisexual.

Oh, dear.

And yes, he is an archaic old dinosaur. I have gone right off him now.

thats interesting may i ask if you are male or female as very few women will date a bisexual man.

He's made this very same comment a number of times (I believe since the 70s after his marriage ended).

I thought his views were common knowledge

I did not know that, but it is still wrong.

Biggins himself isn't common knowledge. We don't all have a recollection of him. Thank goodness I include myself in that unwitting faction.

A lot of them are. There's nothing 'bisexual' about Hughie.

Absolutely agreed. I see sexuality as a spectrum, with very few indeed at 100% either end.

Fair enough I grew up with him on kids TV and apart from that, not being able to watch him on SOTS, and that he still does panto it's all I know about him - he's been outspoken and publicised for it down the years.

Yeah, there is that. I don't for one minute think Hughie's attracted to women. He uses bisexual as a label because he feels, for whatever reason, that it will temper the response of his community, which is notoriously homophobic.

So it's true for some, certainly; I also think bisexuality as a concept is difficult for some older and overtly gay men. They feel it dilutes the battle they've had to fight. At least that's my impression. You'd think he'd be smart enough not to vocalise it on BB, though.

There aint no such thing as bisexuality, it's just greediness.

Bit in bold - I see this viewpoint on here from time to time and it really irritates me. What are you basing that on? I can tell you that you could lay the most stunning woman in the world - naked - on my bed and I would pick up a book and tell her to keep it down. Women do not, never have, and never will hold any sexual attraction for me.

I cannot understand this reactive questioning of heterosexuality.

As Bisexual myself I was pretty pissed off with his comment tbh . I'm sure if it was someone opinionated like Saira or Bear who made the comment there would be a big uproar about it but as it's the lovable Biggins it will be forgotten about !

That comment was awful. Especially when Biggins would probably go crazy if someone said 'gays are just going through a phase; it's not natural. They will succumb to being hetero eventually.' Or something like that!

I am surprised if he really believes that.

There is no logical reason for bisexuals not to exist. :-s
