Colin and Stephen
Polite question to FMs.
I may be the only person who feels this way, but I keep seeing posts mentioning Colin and Stephen and I find it very confusing, as Heavy and Bear are using their nicknames on the show, are known by these nicknames, are being talked to and about by other housemates using these nicknames. Can I ask those who do it why they do it? Is it to confuse, is it a power play kind of thing, or just to be contrary? I don't recall anybody calling Dappy Costadinos or Abz Richard, or any other housemate who achieved 'celebrity' using a nickname. Every time I see the names that I'm not hearing anywhere on Big Brother I have to sit and think about who on earth the FM is talking about. Of course, you can do what you like, I just wondered why you do it so my question is - why do you do it?

I suppose it's because nicknames are usually used as a form of endearment. Most people can't stand Colin/Heavy D, and so would rather use his formal name.

Will you kill me if I tell you that I secretly call them Crabbe and Goyle? If only there were some weasel in their group that could pass as Malfoy. Oh, wait...

I can't stand them either, and have no endearing thoughts regarding either of them It seems easier, to me - and I've never seen or heard of either of them before CBB - to call them by the names they are using on the show.I've never assumed that anybody calling Stephen 'Bear' has loving thoughts about him

Because you can run but you can't hide from a name like Colin.

It's because he isn't 'Heavy D' or 'Boom' he doesn't deserve a nickname, he's colin. A bear is a powerful animal and stephen is not so he's not worthy of that name either.
The use of real names is a diminishing move because they're a couple of asshats. |

I also get confused when I see the names Stephen and Collin used for Bear and Boom (or Heavy D). I prefer to keep it simple and call them Bear and Boom. Also when people use Sam, I instantly think of Sam from civilian BB and get grossed out
Hopefully she starts doing more so I can think of Samantha Fox instead of old man Sam when I see the name Sam.

I'm with you Muggins - it is really confusing when FM's use names that are not being used in the house and I wish they wouldn't do it.

Heavy D isn't the original Heavy D (the American) the way I see it, hence why I call him Colin. Quote:
Its not that difficult to grasp really. Or is it?

I call him Colin for two reasons.
1. I'd feel like an idiot typing Heavy D. 2. The only laugh I've got all series was when Marcus said on opening night 'his real name is Colin'. ![]() ![]() Of course it is.

I call him Colin because I find it intrinsically funny, they used it for Rik Mayall as Colin in Bad News, the bank clerk who lived with his mum
![]() Stephen I call ' Bear' as that nickname is funny anyway, though when Saira calls him Stephen it does make me laugh, as he starts to seethe even more than normal ![]() it can't be that confusing, what about the amount of people that call Lewis "knob"?

My comparison between those two Sams is in the sense of 'who?' - because neither is seen much in either series
![]() When I see Sam now I get confused. Call her Samantha! Makes it easier
