Well that was a satisfactory evening

6 goals, could have been more. Into the quarter finals. Can't wait for the draw.

This is probably overconfidence talking but I fancy us to have a good go at one of the top teams in the next round. We've got to if we want to go much further.

Loved Mitro at the end
The crowd were amazing all the way through! Only bad bit was the moron that decided to reverse out into traffic at Lane 7 causing tailbacks and an hour long journey from the Metro Centre to the ground

Other than that the video at the end of the crowd singing 'Mitro's on fire' has had me laughing all day at his jumping up and down. Just goes to show when the crowd are behind the time the atmosphere must be unbearable for away teams.

Oh and the crowd when Mitro wanted to take the penalty was insane!! Ritchie was a brave man to not give him the ball and take it himself.

I was really pleased. That's the best we could have hoped for without getting a home draw. I know Hull are a premier league team but with our squad and momentum I think we have a good chance of progressing to the semis

Today's team to face Preston from Newcastle United's official Twitter:

Starting XI: Darlow, Yedlin, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett, Ritchie, Shelvey, Hayden, Gouffran, Diame and Mitrovic.

Subs Bench: Sels, Gamez, Anita, Hanley, Lazaar, Atsu and Perez.

I'm glad to see Mitrovic starting a Championship game for a change hopefully he has another good game like he did in mid-week.

Where's Gayle's though? Is he injured or just rested?

Also still no Murphy either in the squad, hopefully, we get another win and 3 points today.

At half time we're drawing 0-0.

We need to improve in front of goal in the second half.

We nearly threw it away at the end but thankfully we held on for a 2-1 win.

Mitrovic with both our goals but we were lucky at the end to get all three points we definitely need to improve in our next match which is Cardiff City at home next Saturday.

A very good (2-1) win and our eighth win in a row in all competitions.

It sounds as if Shelvey could be facing a minimum 5 match ban for using racist language during the Wolves game. He's an idiot if this charge is upheld

He's set to deny the charge.

For us it's all come out of the blue but it's been bubbling away for the last 2 months and has denied it to the club from the start.. But if he's proven guilty he deserves what he gets,

Difficult match this Sunday away at in-form Leeds I'd take a draw if we can.

Thought that would be a tougher game against Leeds. Apart from a couple of chances from set pieces, we were fairly comfortable and deserved the 2-0. Onwards and upwards!!

On a different note, Newcastle now 1/6 to win the championship and 1/33 to gain promotion.

The second goal gets better the more i watch it. I'm really pleased with todays win because Leeds have turned a corner in this division and I expected a really tough game. And in a way it was but we controlled the game early on and without really firing on all cylinders i thought we were unlucky not to be more than a goal up at half time.

Leeds got into the game more and more as time went on but the second goal killed them off..

It's great to have a winning mentality in the team and these are exciting times.

Hopefully, we can keep this winning run going as that's 8 wins (9 in all competitions) in a row now in the Championship.

Blackburn Rovers next at home on Saturday.

Is the cup game against Hull this week too?

I'm so gutted it's not a home game for this as the atmosphere would've been electric!

The game yesterday was very scrappy in parts, and I don't think Shelvey got into his stride, not as many long distance passes this time but still a great performance showing we can grind out wins too. Darlow is proving to be a good choice at No.1 too.
