Well I've never heard of it, so I'm not sure if that makes me feel young or old.

When it first came out I was so confused because there were three different versions and I never knew which one they were going to play and then they released the stupid christmas version! |

A guilty pleasure for me too, but not that much of one for me to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of the release of the Beatles' greatest album, "Revolver". Now that is worth celebrating.

LOL 20 years on and still guaranteed to get people on the dancefloor at parties attempting the dance routine.
![]() Although this time 20 years ago, Macarena had already been a hit in Europe so it's more likely to be 21 years old really.

I looked it up to see what it was. If it was this one I can confirm that I've neither heard it or heard of it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiBYM6g8Tck
Thinking about about, I can't imagine ever being in the kind of place that would play that kind of music or listening to any radio station that would play it. At the time it says it came out I would have been listening to bands like The Sundays, Blur, The Cocteau Twins, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and The Cure. It's hardly surprising that I'd never have heard it. |

I think Chaseta, formerly of the Hollyoaks Daily Threads, is also 20 today (or Thursday, technically yesterday!).

I loved all the bands as well but sometimes I left the house or watched the tv, I am so jealous that you can manage not to hear songs like this but then I was a DJ, I probably have played it

Indeed! The poster said they found it hardly surprising they have never heard of it but I'm more surprised they haven't. Unless very young or very old I thought everyone would know of the Macarena

But how would I have got to know about it?
It is basically the 90s equivalent of The Birdie song or did you manage to not hear that as well

Well I guess if you never watched TOTP, or went to cheesy bars or nightclubs, fairgrounds or weddings or xmas parties or listened to The top 40 or tv talent shows then I guess you could avoid it.

If it makes someone happy, I was watching Vintage TV this morning and found out that I'm fairly certain I'd never heard Purple Rain before. Not much to it is there?
