It really isn't true though. I dance with and have taught, several big men to dance who lead beautifully. Aesthetically it may not be so pleasing and the aesthetic is what SCD tends to be about. But TV and competitive dance aside dance is about how it feels more than how it looks. So just because there is a prejudice (false in my opinion) about big people being judged unattractive doesn't mean they are incapable of dancing. That certainly isn't the case and I think it would be really sad if bigger people were put off because they thought bigger people can't dance well. There is so much pleasure that can be gained and given from dance, not to mention the fact that it is great exercise.

I agree. I've seen some very good larger sized dancers in medalist comps. I've seen larger and older people dance beautifully together socially. Admittedly things are different at top level amateur and professional dance competitions where everyone is lean and athletic. Nevertheless, aesthetically, it is often nicer to see two people dancing in a well connected, relaxed musical manner than to see a couple trying too hard to impress.
