How different does it taste to cow's milk?

Is it supposed to have distinct health benefits /or be healthier for you than cow's milk?

Is there a price difference and is it something that a milkman would deliver to your doorstep or is it too niche?

Basically why goat's milk over cow's milk?

I drank goat's milk on and off as a kid (ha ha) and when I was in college, because I lived at the sheep and goat unit for a while.

Goat's milk has smaller fat globules, which means not only is it more difficult to separate the cream, but it is easier to digest. Small kids and people with cow's milk allergies can usually drink it without any issues. It tends to be a different shade of white from cow's milk, and some people say they can taste a difference in flavor unrelated to the fat content. As long as the goat has been on good pasture and the milk handled in a sanitary manner, there shouldn't be a 'goaty flavor'.

I can't speak for Britain (obviously), but in most of the suburban and rural areas I've lived in here in America there are generally a few quarts in most major markets.

Are the smaller fat globules although not necessarily less numerous good or bad for heart disease for example?

I am not a food scientist or any brand of medical professional, however, it is my understanding that much of the medical profession is rethinking their stance on the relationship between fats and disease. My personal stance is unless you have a gallbladder problem, or some other specific reason that means fat digestion is an issue, then the benefits of moderate consumption out weigh the risks.

Ok many thanks Maggie. I was wondering because Our Queen and the late Queen Mother who lived to nearly 102 are thought to drink goat's milk and the Queen seems in excellent health for 90.

Do they really? Wow. The more you know. There do seem to be some long life genes in the royal families. Look at Phillip, plugging away when many men a fraction of his age would have packed it in. So diet and lifestyle probably play a part, but they are probably only part of the equation.

I've never tried goat's milk, but I do like goat's milk cheese.

I can't drink cow's milk but when we are in Spain I drink Goat milk and it is fine for me but know nothing about health benefits just that I can digest it. I much prefer goat cheese to any other.

No. Only goats.

Sound's like you have an unusual constitution, although I guess technically it's possible to be allergic to anything.

Tried it last week cos it was on a deal on our supermarket.

Nah I think its too creamy for cereals, I just like drinking it.

My eldest son and his partner both drink semi skimmed goats milk, usually the St Helen's one which is £1.65 per litre or Delamere which is £1.60 per litre depending on where you buy from.
Both of them love it and find cows milk semi skimmed greasy.
They also have goats cheese and goats yogurt.
Also they have Special K cereal which they cover in goats milk one with sugar, one without.

Do they feel their health benefits as a result?
