Well, that was unexpected: in spite of truly shocking themes and dire dire music I thought each couple did really really well. Particularly impressed by the X files AT.

Terra was lovely to watch, a dark horse for the finale?
I'm surprised at Amber and Ryan. I thought they'd both step up their game but now I can see both of them leaving early on. Jana is still my favourite! Really hope Jake & Jenna are the first to go but I can see it being Maureen. |

So many tug-your-heartstrings faves, one way or another - I think Jake or Jana might go, though I think they're more likely to prop Jake, due to youth and wanting a bit more time to observe Jenna to see if she's a keeper pro or not.
Since it's a Maks season, and I'm assuming he isn't back for good as a partnered pro, I think they might let Jana/Gleb leave first this time and maybe feature him heavily in other couples' dances and he can get a higher profile run when Maks and/or Derek aren't around. And even I know most everybody better than Jana, at least by connection to something else, so she seems odd-one-out to me. And mainly, she was in the death slot - 2nd - plus she's injured and they may not want the hassle of a couple who can't perform next week. I can't make myself watch yet - just hearing about the manipulative scores does my head in... It sounds like Maks has another dud but they'll prop them through a few weeks because he's a pet. They're not giving Maureen much help (low scores, going first) because she's in Marilu's cohort. And they probably needed to over-score the little person because you don't want her out first - which means she won't last long.So.... maybe this order of outs? Jana, Jake, Rick, Maureen, Terra... then mid-table Babyface, footballer, Amber (held up as long as possible and they'll be hoping for a Maks meltdown), Ryan (also held as long as possible - one of Cheryl's specialities)... then finalists Laurie, Marilu and James. I'm forgetting somebody - so midtable for him/her. |

Why are the routines so short? Ryan's Quickstep lasted about 48 seconds.
When you watch the show in its entirety it moves along quite fast. I think it is time constraints because with a 2 hour show it is actually only 1 hour 36 minutes with the ads taken out. They were only letting 3 judges give comment and I feel that had to be due to time to power through all the couples. The dances do get longer as more are eliminated. At least there is a results show tomorrow or it really would have been jam packed.I think Maureen, Terra and Babyface really raised their game. Babyface - terrific AT. For such a height difference Terra went out and killed it. Sasha has the best quote of a pro like ever. . Quote of the season. Maureen was much better and I liked Artem's choreo. Hopefully if she keeps it together they can hang on. I just hope Jana can feel better. She is a good dancer for a novice and it has to be hard for Gleb to have a good partner and her being hurt so early in the season. They seem to be a popular couple. A few went backwards a bit like Ryan. I think Ryan and Cheryl are mismatched in height and I find that very tall male celebs want to lean over to their partner. He seems to be a bundle of nerves to me. He has to let the protester thing go and the producers have to let it go also but I predict they will milk it as long as he is in . James went a little backwards also but I like the effort and he does seem to stay in sync. I have never really been jazzed about Sharna's pasos and this was no different although it did fit the theme and I see what she was trying to do. It seemed to fall apart at the end. James is Canadian (his father is from England and I think his mother is Canadian). I don't know if that will have an effect on voting but he has to build a fan base of DWTS fans. For eliminations I don't know how strong Jake's fan base is but I don't that he will get better and it will be him. As expected heaps of praise on Laurie and Marilu. Would not expect anything different. |

Here are my scores and thoughts:-
Maureen & Artem- 7- Much better than last week, needed a bit more body contact. Jana & Gleb- 7- Difficult with an injury, but did well. Rick & Emma- 5 (5.5)- Fun and entertaining, technique needs work but a lot better than Cha Cha Cha Laurie & Val- 7 (7.5)- Fantastic, sharp and precise, but an illegal lift. Calvin & Lindsay- 7 (6.5)- A Good performance, needs a bit of improvement. James & Sharna- 7- Shaping was a bit odd at times and I agree with Len, it got a little too theatrical on occasion but I thought it was powerful and dramatic and he did well. Ryan & Cheryl- 7- Underscored, kept in hold virtually all the way through, ok it needed a bit more polish to the footwork, but 6's were harsh, I thought he was better than last week. Amber & Maks- 4- There was nothing in hold and quite a few mistakes but I loved the drama of the dance. Terra & Sasha- 8- Lots of Hollywood drama, her frame and posture was great, a fantastic performance. Vanilla Ice & Witney- 6 (6.5)- Much better than I thought, but there was gapping and his posture isn't good, footwork ok but could be better but I loved the storytelling and overall, it was very good. Babyface & Allison- 8- I loved the concept of it, there was a lot of Argentine Tango content but for me, lacked a little bit of passion and intensity and I think that is because of the music but I loved it. Marilou & Derek- 6 (5.5)- Interesting one, when she was in hold she was good but for me when she was out of hold, there were a lot of little mistakes and for me, it was just a bit stiff. Jake & Jenna- 6- Aww, bless him, a great effort but a bit sloppy. |

I just watched Jana and Gleb - and during the VT, she was hurt when he swung her around too roughly imo - and every time she said 'ouch', he was manipulating her - swinging or dropping her into a backbend. Then the dance - I thought she was great. She's really a beautiful mover, so I hope I'm wrong and they don't go home but I still think they might.
I'm not convinced, but part of me thinks he's too insensitive with his partners. When Tom asked him about her and her injury, he just mumbled something like, "Well, it worked." Not what you'd usually hear from a partner of a seriously-hurt celeb - they'd usually show more concern/tenderness imo. Oh well, I want to like Gleb - I do like him - I just think he's a bit dopey or tunnel-visioned. In his first season in the US, his partner fainted and there were complaints that he didn't seem to notice very quickly and when he did, he didn't seem to care. Then dropping Natalie and she had to sit out the tour - and dropping Kristina and causing an injury... Worrying pattern imo. I'm getting Maks-vibes - he's actually hit one of his partners, at least once, ON CAMERA (not hard, but a definite angry slap or knock to her shoulder - and he also threw her down into a pose, way too harshly.) In her book, she said there was even more and they offered her a new partner but she kept Maks. Who knows if it's true, but it's telling they let some of the angry manhandling actually air. Gleb isn't into that territory as I don't think anything he's done is intentional, but I think it's looking very likely that he's just not being careful enough with his partners. |

I do need to get off his case - he's a swell guy and who needs brains when you look like THAT
![]() I'll check out Terra and Sasha - he's been a real trouper to soldier on despite being treated like garbage by the show. Emma too. |

Happy with the result.
Loving Rick and hope he can survive a few more rounds. He's having fun and giving it his best. Terra was also a breath of fresh air. Not really feeling Laurie and Val. Would not mind them being Sabrina Bryan'd. James is my winner so far. |

Next week because of the Presidential debates the show is only an hour (46 minutes running time) and they have to get through 12 dances. So as I understand it they are doing dance challenges for immunity.
![]() I have no idea how it will work. Will they let the couples choose who they want to go up against? A style they have never danced I hope. Will they match for abilities? I am sure the press release will be out in a few days explaining the madness. James has cha cha this week so he will be challenged in Latin. So far he is the only one who has confirmed what dance they are doing. I would like to see Laurie challenged with a ballroom to see how she does especially with frame etc. |

yeah surely the face off is instead of the usual scored dances then the 6 without immunity go to public vote? Anyway ABC tend to make the rules up as it goes along so I'm sure the same will happen on this occasion

Good lord, the songs are actually alright for the most part!
![]() That being said, both the Tango songs have the capacity to be either incredible or dire, depending on choreography/stage set-up. (Also why they didn't save "Battle Cry" for Hallowe'en I will never, ever understand). |

I don't know if anyone is following but if you are double elimination tonight. I have no idea. I feel bad for Maureen - I think the editing of her constant crying and Artem frustrated can't help.
If I had a say on to send packing it would be Amber and Maks . I don't get it - her complaints about being body shamed but they are doing routines that to me are extremely sexualized. Sheese. Lordy, I had to look away when Maks was laying on top of her on the table. Ugh. I think Marilu will be the shock elimination of the season in the coming weeks. I just don't see her gelling with Derek and something is off. To me Laurie is a lock for for the win (ginormous fan base) but second place hmm. James' quickstep was a fabulous routine even with the bobble, I only wish Len was there to comment. Calvin is another one who is getting better every week and Terra just going out and getting it done in such a good way. I dread these theme weeks but evidently they seem popular. Next week is most memorable year..... |

This is shaping up to be one of the worst seasons ever. But sadly I'm not surprised, as SCD has improved it's cast in the last three or so seasons, DWTS has gone down hill.
For starters, I can't remember there ever being such an inevitable winner (Laurie), who is very good but I'd love to see her dance a ballroom number for a change. The rest are generally OK but don't stand out in anyway, either as dancers or for their personality. I also think the standard of Pro has gone down. Whitney and Alison just aren't good enough. Keo was terrible too and will probably come back. Artem is dull as dish water. Emma is wasted every season. The never ending themes are terrible too. In particular the one/s that serve as an excuse to put a bunch of crying celebs on screen as they tell us their life stories. |

I also don't get why they are pushing Val for a win. Why on earth would you want someone who abused a child on social media to win???????? Keo won't be back soon. Last season with a ringer he was alright, but didn't pull much out of the bag, and the final straw was his behaviour during switch up last season. They kept him in the troupe for diversity and because he is an excellent dancer. |
