Favourite 'minisode'
Oswin Oswald
06-08-2016
There is currently an excellent thread asking members for their favourite episode ever. This made me wonder what your favourite 'minisode' is? I think The Night of the Doctor is very dramatic and shows what a fine actor Paul McGann is - a pity he wasn't given more opportunities to play the Doctor. But my personal favourite is definitely Clara and the Tardis - very funny, and contains dozens of Clara's, which for a Jenna fan like me is simply splendid

Sometimes I think the minisodes are better than the episodes themselves!

I like most of them. Night Of The Doctor was a good one, also liked Tennant's Intro, the Amy and Rory one with the TARDIS being stuck in the TARDIS(If they count as minisodes)

However, purely from a biased point of view that it had my fave Doctor in it, has to be Time Crash. Tennant and Davison just played of each other beautifully, though saying that I do have reservations over the Fifth Doctor being uncharacteristically grumpy!

Just a minor quibble though.

Night of the Doctor.

I think Paul was robbed as this should have been the pre credit sequence to Day of the Doctor.

Does Curse of Fatal Death count?

If not, then Night of the Doctor.

"I'm a Doctor.... though perhaps not the one you were expecting" - brilliant!

Night of the Doctor. I don't think it's even a competition.

Curse of Fatal Death does not count, because it was a funny take on the show. and it's not canon, not part of the show.

If I had to pick one, just one...

The Night Of The Doctor. Superbly written and good to actually see Paul McGann reprising his Doctor, even though it was a bit brief.

I was disappointed by Space & Time - the Comic Relief episodes a few years back. But that's just my opinion.

I had the same reservations - but then I started watching some of the old Fifth Doctor episodes - he really does spend a lot of his time being outraged and frustrated!

Dimensions in Time.

Nuff said.

My favourite is Time Crash. The only time we've seen a new who doctor and Classic who doctor interact, not to mention the fact that it was not only hilarious, but for such a short episode also had a clever little plot and a handy way of quickly explaining Davidson's appearance.

I was going to say as my second the 'born again' 2005 children in need minsode, but not actually sure if it counts as one, because it's more an offcut from either the end of parting of the way's or the start of the Christmas invasion rather than it's own independent thing.

I also rate highly the one with the ponds where there is the TARDIS parked inside the TARDIS (can't recall it's name).

Uh-Oh, can of worms alert. He said the 'c' word. This is not a drill. I repeat this is not a drill. Flee the forum for your own mental sanity.

Tardisode #11 - 'Crime Crackers'. I found the 'Fear Her' Tardisode more entertaining than the full episode.

Yes, he did but I don't think it was ever on the scale he took it to in Time Crash!

Perhaps you could just say the Doctor, in general doesn't like to see his TARDIS's interior 'desktop theme' having been changed without having done it himself. Tennant didn't seem too pleased when he saw Smith's interior, as neither did the war doctor on seeing Tennant's 'coral' design.

That and being yanked out of his own time stream could account for the extra dose of grumpiness.

Indeed!

It doesn't overly bother me about the grumpiness thing, it was for 'charidee' after all!

I think if Davison had been too much like his normal self the minisode probably wouldn't have worked so effectively. It was his Doctor being overly grouchy contrasting with Tennant's overly flippant interpretation in it that made it funny really so though I had reservations about it, it's always an entertaining watch!

Plus Tennant giving it the 'You were My Doctor' bit at the end was quite nice too.

I liked the one where future Matt Smith met an earlier version of himself (when River was preparing for her date ....), for me thats when the minisodes went from simple fun thing to actually adding to the story ....
