Ricky Gervais calling out Channel 5 on their hypocrisy
How can they be issuing constant warnings that some viewers may find scenes or comments offensive and then evict someone for saying something offensive?
http://www.irishmirror.ie/showbiz/ce...iggins-8574294 I've always found the idea of evicting people for a supposedly offensive remark they've made as bizarre, as the whole show is recorded and edited and the producers get to decide what is aired. As for other housemates being offended, I'm not sure that washes either as they spend the whole four weeks in there arguing and offending each other. Who is to say calling someone a 'tosser' or a 'pervert' or whatever is any less offensive than an un-PC remark? |

"Be prepared for confrontation and for offensive language from the start and throughout".
"Biggins has been removed because he has made a number of comments capable of causing great offence to housemates and the viewing public". Yeah, your excessive clickbait warnings after every ad break keep telling us to expect offensive language. So show us the offensive language. |

I agree, though I may personally find something offensive I wouldn't want that person removed.
I was expecting Bear to be removed seeing as he seemed to be a danger to others, yet he remains in the house while Biggins was removed because of his views? |

This one is an absolute grey area. Who appointed BB as moral guardians for the public? I could understand if Biggins had been in a furious argument with someone and hurling racist insults at them but when people get evicted for having a casual conversation, you'd wonder what is going on.

All it proves is that the stupid clickbait warnings after every ad break are there just to keep viewers watching. They hardly ever have anything remotely offensive, the warnings are bogus. Biggins being removed for "being capable of offence" proves they will never show anything genuinely offensive, so why the warnings? They think we are idiots. Well, come to think of it we are.

The point is that crude sexual talk, swearing etc would not get you a visit from HM Constabulary, espousing homophobic, racist or discriminatory views against any minority group could. A person representing that group need not be present.
Remember when Carole Thatcher got sacked from the one show for making a racist remark in the green room about a tennis player? The sportsman in question was not there and I understand that the person who made the complaint was not from an ethnic minority background but they were offended by the remark. |

It's ridiculous to post up warnings covering EVERYTHING in every single ad break as well as at the start and then chuck a person out for talking crap or doing something offensive .
We are all adults for goodness sake and I say keep the person in no matter how offensive, let us witness it and let the HMs handle it among themselves . If it is that bad then noms will put the person up and the viewers can vote on how offended they are by evicting the person .....or not . Honestly, I'm fed up being treated like a 12 yr old viewer , with BB babysitting me with parental control and choosing what is fit for my delicate sensibilities . ![]() And I don't even like Biggins ! |

Yes, they could edit out everything that might be a problem, but is that really desirable? Should they hide everything like they did Jay and the freezer? As for why BB doesn't just show things without any warnings or removals, the broadcasting code gives them some flexibility, but they have to do something when they broadcast things that are potentially offensive to the viewers. It's all explained fairly well in the Ofcom judgement re CBB5 (the Jade / Shilpa one) which is worth reading and can be found online somewhere. (If BB had paid more attention to it, they wouldn't have got C5 in trouble over Conor.) |

No not at all but then they have freedom of speech.
i remember being annoyed with the incident as he was censored by BB, and therefore the opportunity for his bizarre views to be challenged would never arise. this show at its heart should still be a social experiment, but how can it be with people being removed left right and centre for behaving how they would normally? |

C5 is a network station in the UK. BB as it is shown here, with profane language and sexual shenanigans would have to be shown on HBO or similar independent broadcaster in America. |

Now they seem to pay a few celebs good money to get the audience and then get lots of cheap nobodies to keep the audience and create the drama.
Now he has attracted the audience they boot him out and dont pay him. |

Do you think BB should be an exemption from the rules that every other program on tv must follow and that are a condition of C5's broadcasting licence?

Certainly now we don't have live feed it seems bizarre to kick them out for saying things the public might find offensive when the public would never hear it or see it if they didn't show it which they usually don't. So the public finding it offensive is largely redundant.
That leaves us with other HMs finding something offensive and here it gets more tricky. i can see why BB might have to take a stand but they are very hit and miss with regard to what they take action on and what they don't |

Human beings having a conversation will always be offensive to some . It is totally ridiculous to expect people to be spouting some sanitised, innocuous conversations all the time . |

It makes me smile when they dole out the warnings in the Diary Room....reminding them of the does and don'ts ...one of those don't being 'Swearing'....errrr.....'Hello !!!' ....There'd be no-one left in there after the first 5 minutes of the programme starting if they carried that threat out.....

Maybe Bigz is a bigoted, out of date old queen. I don't know enough about him and haven't read the transcript but if I were in there I would be talking to the producers about a violation of contract. There's a certain duty of care they undertook to provide a safe environment and given the escalating incidents in the house and the producer's blatant lack of action to curb said behaviour I'd be discussing my options with a lawyer.
Just saying. Maybe the statements were made on purpose or agreed to by both parties as an 'amicable' way out of the house. |
