Yes, I suspect that maybe it wasn't a ''fake'' after all. Damage limitation comes to mind!
I have to say I find the title of this thread somewhat crass. Definition of martyr: a person who willingly suffers death "Biggins Ejected" would surely have sufficed

We should all be allowed to say what we like ,however odious. HIV is not a man-made virus, it's characteristics and evolution are natural. Yes, gay men are far more likely to be infected by HIV in the developing world, but it is mainly heterosexual in the African continent. I don't see where bisexuals come into it really, it is a sexually transmitted disease with no ability to select a target. As for Renee's CIA stories, someone always has a story about a shadowy figure, always entirely unevidenced. of course. All, this proves is how uneducated housemates and huge sways of the public are.

Within the HIV-M group, there is a further division into at least ten subtypes or clades (groups of genetically related virus). Historically, the distribution of subtypes followed the geographic patterns listed below. Subtype A: Central and East Africa as well as East European countries that were formerly part of the Soviet Union. Subtype B: West and Central Europe, the Americas, Australia, South America, and several southeast Asian countries (Thailand, and Japan), as well as northern Africa and the Middle East. Subtype C: Sub-Saharan Africa, India, and Brazil. Subtype D: North Africa and the Middle East. Subtype F: South and southeast Asia. Subtype G: West and Central Africa. Subtypes H, J, and K: Africa and the Middle East. Quote:
In India, a study comparing the relative transmission efficiency of HIV-1 subtypes A and C in vitro, showed that subtype C isolates were able to replicate and transmit (higher transmission efficiency across cervical mucosa) than subtype A isolates
Studies indicate that the different subtypes might "transmit" better via certain routes than others, Eg based on that Indian study, it suggests that subtype C would be more likely to transmit via vaginal sex than subtype A.

When AIDS became an issue in the West in the mid 1970's it was widely believed that it originated in Africa. It was still taboo for Gay people to come out publicly in many countries and it was a commonly held view that it was bi-sexual men who brought it to the west.
Biggins is a product of his time but he should never have been evicted for this. This kind of censorship is of the kind that sees Christian communities being afraid to put up Christmas trees or wish someone a Happy Christmas in case others are offended |

Personally I wasn't offended by his comments, despite being bisexual, I just thought they were stupid and ignorant. Particularly his "Bi today, gay tomorrow" cliche'd line of thinking. Unfortunately that's quite common in the hetero and homo worlds. He wasn't booted, in my opinion, for any one comment he made. It was a culmination of comments -- some of which don't seem to have been aired. I kind've miss the C4 days when they just aired a persons views and then let the public vote. That was the whole point of the show to me. |

As he also considers bisexuals to actually be full homosexuals, but in denial, doesn't that meant that he considers that it was homosexuals that brought HIV/AIDS?

Lot's of things were commonly held views in the 1970s. That doesn't mean they should be accepted now.

There is certainly more than C5 are telling us.

If a straight white male or female made either racist, homophobic or anti-Semitic comments, they would be removed.
And a lot of posters on here would be crying out for it. (Not me, but I can be a bit of a bigot myself... I call it my opinion) Why should Biggins be any different? This crazy world has become so pc that you can only have an opinion if it doesn't offend anybody. (Or feign offence) |
