Anyone else like this excellent band from the 90's and 00's? I think they released some really good singles over the years, like Sick & Tired, Carnival, My Favourite Game, Hanging Around, Lovefool, Rise & Shine, Don't Blame Your Daughter and others. They had a unique sound and singer Nina has a distinctive voice. I know they've got back together in recent years to tour but it would be great if they recorded a new album together too! I'd love to hear new music from them.

A few of my favourites:

Best band in the world, although I couldn't stand them until they released Gran Turismo.

Here are my faves:

A Good Horse

3.45 : No sleep One of the most beautiful songs ever.

I need some fine wine and you, you need to be nicer

Holy Love Live in 2015 – I didn't realise they'd played together so recently.

The last two are from Super Extra Gravity, which has to be one of the best albums ever made and the accompanying videos are superb (as are all Cardigans videos).

And here's Nina singing an old Leonard Cohen classic. Famous Blue Raincoat
Fragile, haunting and deeply moving.

Strange, scary weirdness here from the Cardigans offshoot, A Camp.
The Oddness Of The Lord

And how about this? Same Old Song

Erase; rewind is brilliant

Gran tourismo is their highlight period probably.
I looked at your links but Carnival is horrible

It's their first really good album, but surely not even in the same league as good as Long Gone Before Daylight and Super Extra Gravity.

I agree about their early stuff though. I really don't know what they thought they were doing. To my ears it's mainly twee nonsense, although I have read comments on YouTube from people claiming that Gran Turismo was the beginning of the end!

I couldn't be bothered with Long Gone Before Daylight for quite a long time, because I thought it was a blatant attempt to suck up to the US radio stations by writing Country parodies. Now I see it for what is is – a brilliant album of top class songs.

Some of the lyrics are

And Then You Kissed Me

Man I’ve had a few
But they wouldn’t quit blow me like you
You gave me your name and sight
With a halo around my eye
And it hits me like never before
That love is a powerful force
Yes it struck me that love is as bored
So I pushed you a little bit more

Love, you’re news to me
You’re a little bit more then I thought you’d be
A mow in my well fed lawn
You’re a nightmare beating the dawn
Oh it hits me like never before
That love is a powerful force
Yes it struck me that love is a sport
So I pushed you a little bit more

Blue, blue, black and blue
Red blood sticks like glue
True love is cruel love
Red blood say power fuel
Sweet love tasty blood
My heart overfloods

Oh you hit me
Yeah you hit me really hard
Man you hit me
Yeah you hit me right in the heart
Lord I’ve had my deal
But I never quite knew how it feels
When love makes you wake up soar
With fists that are ready for more

And it hits me that love is a game
Like in war no one can be blamed
Yes it struck me that love is a sport
So I pushed you a little bit more

Blue, blue, black and blue
Red blood sticks like glue
True love is cruel love
Red blood say power fuel
Sweet love tasty blood
My heart overfloods

Man you hit me
Yeah you hit me really hard
Baby you hit me
Yeah you punched me right in the heart
And then you kissed me
And then you hit me

Oh you hold me with your violent heartbeat at night
Oh you strike me with your silence baby tonight
Why you hold me with your violence baby come hit me
You hold me with your violent heartbeat

You're right.

The lyrics to For What It's Worth really make me break down and mirror exactly how I feel/felt about someone. And her howling at the end is haunting.

I copied the lyrics from a website and posted them without reading them through. I'm not sure they've got them entirely right in places.

I am saddened that radio makes the Cardigans out to have been one-hit wonders with Love Fool. My Favourite Game was excellent, like you said Spaceygal, and so was their version with Tom Jones of Burning Down the House.

Haha I noticed Shame LGBD didn't receive the attention it deserved. There are some beautiful love songs on there.

Glad to see other Cardigans fans here! I didn't "leave out" all those other songs mentioned, I just posted my some of my favourite singles of theirs. I didn't want to post links to too many songs, I just selected a few. I like Erase/Rewind, although it's not one of my favourites of theirs. I love all their albums. All very different from each other but they all have great stuff on them. Sick & Tired was the first single I ever bought of theirs and I still love it. Been It is probably my least favourite single. Their final couple of albums are very different indeed, from their "fluffier" sounding albums of the 90's. Even when the songs "sounded" light and fluffy though, the lyrics weren't always so. A lot of the lyrics are quite dark, as others have mentioned. I love the song 3.45 No Sleep, it's so good.

Hanging Around is still my favourite single of theirs. It's just brilliant. It's a shame so many people only ever seem to go on about Lovefool, like it's the only thing they ever released! They had lots of other hits! I do like the song, and included the video above, but they have many other songs I prefer. For What It's Worth is another fave single of mine. I forgot to add the link to that one actually.

Super Extra Gravity has to be the best. It was just a bit weird that while most albums begin with a killer track, the opener, i'm Losing A Friend was perhaps the weakest track on it.

I always wondered why they used a drum machine on Gran Turismo, as I'm sure it would have been far better with a real drummer. The A Camp albums are also worth investigating, especially this track. Stronger Than Jesus

It's odd that they do mention God and Jesus quite frequently in the lyrics, because I'm sure there's no evidence that they're in any way a religious band. Quite the opposite I would have thought.

Anyway, keep posting Cardigans comments to keep a decent band at the top of the Music section for a change.

Why does hardly anybody write 'proper' songs like these any more?

I'm a big fan of "Long Gone Before Daylight". I think it got good reviews at the time but it still seemed to pass everyone by.

I was surprised to read recently, that guitarist Peter Svensson is now one of those Swedish pop hitmaker types who writes/produces songs for all the big chart acts.

Hardly surprising, as the production on the last wo albums was outstanding. However, in spite of some great songs, Gran Turismo sounds as if it was knocked together in somebody's bedroom.

A great video here, with double the value for Nin fans.

A Camp - I can buy you

Does anybody know where the name A Camp came from? I never know whether it is pronounced purely as a noun (which seems a bit odd), or as a letter of the alphabet.
