Apparently there is some leeway as to what you can say about bisexuals as well. That said it's clearly not a free for all as Biggins was warned about his comments.

Blacks and gays, not so much. If you try to criticise people from either of these backgrounds on tv you are obligated to be outnumbered by social justice warriors telling you how bigoted you are.

Technically it's allowed but only if presented with heavy handed opposition.

And finally there are the Jews who cannot be criticised in any way shape or form in mainstream media.

It doesn't matter if there are a thousand zionists and sjw's poised to counter your arguments.

What is not allowed is not allowed.”

Someone needs to tell family guy that.

But i have to be careful mentioning that as apparently some people claim that could also be close to the wind of "stereotyping".”

I agree when it comes to earning potential - it was a very big thing when TalkTalk removed their sponsorship from BB and CBB after - or even DURING - the Shilpa/Jade series. Commercial TV channels do not want to lose their advertising revenue potential.

The truth to me is that ethnicity as defined by both Nazis and Jewish people is surely false anyway, we all came from Africa originally and are simply the same species. All kinds of people have used claims of racial difference to stress superiority, even some of those that call themselves Jewish in the past. It's better when people put aside the fear of difference, however some political/religious power holders see that as undermining their own status.”

BIB ....That is proven total nonsense.....

The exception is Jews joking about themselves. A bit like how black people are the only ones allowed to say the word that starts with an N and ends in igger.

In my opinion both should have been shown because biggins was not ejected on monday for saying whatever it was about jews, so it must not have been offensive enough to merit an ejection..”

Agree with you. Hard to call without seeing the actual content but personally not sure it was more offensive in content than what he had said already. Suspect it boils down to some subjects being more taboo than others whether tightly or wrongly.

Anyone making jokes about the holocaust - whilst getting paid an alleged £150,000 for doing so - kinda deserves what they get!

Some people claim comedy can cover any subject but genocide would seem a comedy step too far. And it seems as if Biggins was subconsciously wishing Katie had died in a concentration camp or something like that? You could argue he was implying Big Brother should treat Katie in the same way the Nazis treated the Jews. Why mention showers and rooms if there wasn't some hidden meaning to it? Perhaps a tad disturbing?

For Christ's sake what a load of whining. Thank God you lot don't live in the middle east, where people are being thrown off buildings and stoned to death!

Yes, I'm sure Christopher Biggins hopes Katie Waissel is gassed in a concentration camp, that makes loads of sense.

Someone needs to tell Family Guy that.

And yes, you COULD argue he was implying it literally but it makes far more sense that like the Jewish writers of Family Guy sometimes like to do, he was making a holocaust joke.

The guy admitted it was wrong:

http://jewishnews.timesofisrael.com/...-chamber-slur/

Quote:
“Biggins told Jewish News: “I am mortified by what I said. It was a stupid thing to do and I truly regret it. I apologised to Katie straight away and we cleared the air, but I’d also like to apologise to the wider Jewish community.”

Admitting that the remark was about the Nazis and gas chambers, he said: “I suppose I was, yes. But it didn’t occur to me that’s what I was referring to.””

I believe people have the right to be prejudiced but you can't say outrageous stuff like that on a reality tv show and expect to get away with it. Still, I'm sure he'll get work in panto this Christmas so I'm sure the scandal will blow over.

I would find jokes about the holocaust to be offensive be they told by Jews or non-Jews. I've never watched Family Guy, well, might have seen one episode but now that I know they make holocaust jokes, I'm glad to say I'll never watch another episode.

I don't think genocide is a topic for comedy. Allo Allo - the BBC 1 comedy show set during WW2 - never mentioned the holocaust. They made jokes about Germany's occupation of France but they never mentioned genocide. How can anyone find genocide funny? Rhetorical question!

Nobody finds genocide funny. Some people find jokes about genocide and other such dark topics funny.

Biggins' joke wasn't funny but that doesn't mean it was anything but a joke.

Clearly not seeing as you seem unable to substantiate your argument.

Haven't posted on DS in over a year. But read this and laughed before realising how little we have come.. We are arguing about who should be more offended?
As a bisexual happily married Jew I am kinda saddened by that. I get discrimation by gays and straights in the past for being bi. Oh I am in the closet or confused, promiscuous etc. Disrespecting that and I am married and not sleeping around.

However in this country the only times I have been scared of violence or threatened was after my conversion to Judaism. Or my husband who has a knife to his throat because of it.

Both are wrong but belittling one group for whatever reasons is something we all need to move on from. This sort of thread just reminds me how far we really haven't.

I believe it may be because Biggins had aired his views on bisexuals prior to this - an article in the Big Issue back in 2014 for example. So it's already out there that he has a bigoted view of bisexuality.

With regard to his joke about Jews, maybe Katie didn't want it aired and asked that it not be. If they went against her wishes, it could be seen as very insensitive and anti Semitic.

It is ignorant and bigoted and I know from 2 friends of mine who are bi-sexual how hurtful and isolating they find it.”

Oh my goodness, thank you... I was told the other day that I'm not a minority, that I'm ok because I can "Flow Through Gay & Straight Communities Easily" - so not true!

The amount of times I've heard "Oh, You're Just Greedy" "You're Just Experimenting" "You Just Want The Best Of Both Worlds" etc is ridiculous... If I'd been in the house, I'd be asking why Biggins & Renee's attitude is that bisexuality is somehow less legitimate & "Worse" than being gay or straight...
