I have said this before but bb tends to get older housemates once their best is long gone and they have usually have been on other shows normally the jungle.

There was the late David gests, ken Morley Janice Dickinson, biggins even sam fox arguably.

I am not sure what they thought biggins would offer cbb as the demographic doesn't real fit in with his type of act.

I don't dislike older housemates although I know it seems I do but cbb just seems to pick them really badly these days.

There hasn't really been any decent older housemates since the Barrymore, Galloway days

He's appreared regularly on SOTS for years so presumably BB thought he would be a good choice for a HM

Yes, this. Also the sort of person whom when referred to before he went into the house would bring a reaction something like .. "ah, l like Biggins, harmless and fun .. not a malicious bone in his body ". Not any more though ..

I think because he is a famous name. There has been a lot of criticism of CBB, especially Summer CBB, of having Z-list celebs as housemates. Biggins is well-known by the public and if people like that go into the house they are likely to get some press coverage which leads to publicity for the show. Because of Biggins' popularity it also boosts ratings as fans of his may tune in to see what he is doing in the house.

It is because he was in agreement for being chewed up & spat out, still receiving his fee. Biggins is an 'insider' Game recognises game.

Nice little favour for Ch5. Nice little high paid stint for Biggins

I imagine BB were a bit short of names that Mr Average had heard of, a bit of pleading and a wad of cash, and Bingo.

Because unlike most older celebs he is not drugged up and going batty. He can still manage to appear like the jolly cheerful clown which he clearly isn't while masking bitterness and vile views with the cheerful exaggerated raucous laughter.

The whole "Biggins" (as opposed to the normal "Christopher") naming told me right from the start that he was considered, by Endemol, to be some sort of national treasure. Perhaps they should have asked us what we thought, but when did they listen to the viewers?

I think he was also referred to as Biggins during his time on I'm A Celeb so it's not just and Endemol thing

Galloway! That was one of the finest reality television moments of all time. The people who take him seriously post his "would you like me to be the cat?" BB moment can now be counted on the fingers of one hand, even after all this time. What a consummate self defeating moment. Worthy of the class A gobshite he is.

CBB has always had a mixture of age groups. They need older contestants too so that the older viewers won't be too alienated.

He had the best career out of everyone in the house this series.

I've never been keen on him.

I presume he was considered to be a fan favourite, and can at least be called a celeb.

It depends what you want as a viewer.

For me (and i accept part of this may be because I'm middle aged myself but i did actually feel the same when BB started when i was only 29) my interest in BB comes from the psychological aspects of seeing how people cope with being in an enclosed, pressure cooker environment and how they interact with each other. That includes just talking to each other and the fact is that whilst not automatically making them more interesting or valuable people, older people have by virtue of their age, more experiences on which to converse and apply to the situation. I enjoy that much more than people running around shrieking with few (or any) clothes on and snogging each other. I prefer the younger people when they're just talking as well.

That's a general point re having older people in but somebody like Biggins has had an interesting and varied career - he was quite a good and we'll respected actor in things like I, Claudius and Porridge before going into presenting. He has known countless, famous interesting people who he could relate tales of. He has lived through the experience of being gay when it was still a criminal offence and how attitudes have changed. Society, has changed during his life time.

Talking to older people is actually really interesting. I used to like listening to my Granddad talk about both Wars and the Depression when i was a kid. Oral history.

Frankly i wish they would concentrate less on the reality stars desperately hogging screen time with the antics they know will attract attention and concentrate more on the 'quieter' moments.

Hear hear KitKat! Totally agree.

Grant seemed to be of the opinion that Biggins was the one who held court in there, who people zoomed in on and flocked around.. Poor Grant seemed to think that we'd have seen this but unfortunately CBB is too busy showing us the vacuous UK reality 'stars' sticking their tongues down each others throats.

I would have loved to have heard some of Biggins other chats with people, obviously the non-controversial ones!

What is your issue with celebrities that people over 30 might know?

Because he is famous and has a strong personality.

Why was Chloe Mafia considered a good booking? She's a nobody.
