Back in the day when everything was black and white
As disturbing as I find some of the behaviour of the younger housemates i have to say that I find myself slightly envious of it. It reminds me of when I was that age and everything was far more black and white, right and wrong and the fact that someone felt or acted differently to me was a big thing and I would argue my point and stand my ground no matter what. As the years roll by you get your edges knocked off you I think and experience shows you that actually most things are grey because there is always a different point of view and people are entitled to think and act differently to you. Maturity shows you that sucking it in and getting on with people gives you a calmer more productive life. There are things of course that I would still stand up and be counted for but I don't sweat the small stuff anymore and most of the things the younger housemates are arguing about I just couldn't be arsed to lose my cool and throw my toys out of the pram about. So life is more peaceful and balanced but watching CBB has made me realise that as a 50 something that passion, edge and couldn't give a toss side of me has long gone and I do feel a little nostalgic for it. Any other oldies feel the same way?

Apply for next years BB then! You'll recapture the fighting spirit of your youth in no time. By day 5 you'll be having a blazing row over the thickness of a pancake or something!

LOL I would go in and become that annoying older woman who stakes her claim on cooking for the house (I'm a feeder) and pisses everyone off who tries to offer their help when I am tired and frazzled because I want to be a kitchen martyr. You see age makes you aware of your personality shortcomings as well

Thanks. If I have a late mid life crisis and apply then I wil hold you to your vote. Of course my kids will disown me. As young people they can be as opinionated and contrary as they want but as soon as mum and dad show any signs of having an existence that is slightly outside their perception of what 'old people' are supposed to do it is soooo embarrassing.

Good to know I'm not the only embarrassing parent out there. Have to say I walked on egg shells when my daughter was between the ages of 16 and 19 but know she is a 21 year old graduate she's actually rather lovely. Just have to get my son over the hump now.

I doubt there's a parent alive who hasn't embarrassed their children at some point. My son went through the the grumpy teenager phase for about five minutes but we still wound him up and embarrassed him at times-all gentle fun though. He is now all grown up and head of IT at a big bank and is appalled that we waste our time watching "BB tripe" as he puts it, so I suppose the embarrassment continues, and long may it go on too!! 😀

Well done you - validation that you haven't screwed up parenthood too much. A level results next week - hoping son hadn't f*cked it up for the second year running. So frustrating as he is very, very bright but can't be arsed. From his fragile position he does judge me for watching CBB. Experience tells me that karma will suffice - his kids will put him through the ringer when they get to his age just as he has exposed to me 35 years own what a total nightmare I was to my parents. Revenge is a dish best served cold!
