Is it a homophobic slur? Only in America? Anyone else find that weird?

No, only when he knew he was losing the argument did he begin to suggest it was homophobic.

it was a patronising slur to wind Frankie up, and it worked

I don't really see the link between pussy cats and homosexuality. That being said nothing would surprise me with Bear.

It was nice to see him stop saying it when asked.

Not a homophobic slur IMO but a pretty wanky attempt at deliberately baiting another person to make them loose their temper. Bear is a troll.

Agreed.

Wonder if he's still traumatised by the pussy cat security guard 😁

Lewis is a professional bully he knew what he was saying calling Frankie a Pussy(cat) is the same as someone this side of the pond calling someone a

"Cee U Next Tuesday" .He repeated the word Pussy for effect and Renee (?) said the C word to someone in the group saying Pussy was the USA version of the insulting C..... WORD.

It wasn't Lewis, it was Bear.

I don't think it's a homophobic slur but I can't imagine Bear calling any of the other fellas Pussycat. Don't think he really thought about it though.

I don't think Bear is very tall but being one of the guys in their mid twenties he's at his peak.
The older men certainly were even shorter.
Lewis is the tallest and probably looks the best looking of the guys.
Bear calling Frankie a pussy was always going to wind him up.
Don't know if that was homophobic reference because it can't be weakness or the older men would have been called it too.
Frankie may not be physically aggressive. But don't think he'd be a pushover. He works out in so many ways.He not only has his power yoga which is really hard but he does so much exercise developing each set of muscles in turn.

To me the phrase pussy cat has to refer to what he perceives as girly comment but he's made it to a gay man!

Therefore too offensive...!

A man would never call another straight man pussy cat. It just wouldn't happen, unless they were trying to suggest they were gay or feminine. I accept that many people think some others just look for ways to be offended, but to me it didn't seem out of the ordinary that Frankie asked if he said that because he was gay. I'd thought the same.

This isn't to say I believe Bear was being deliberately homophobic - I absolutely don't think he was. I do, however, think he said pussy cat on some unconscious level because Frankie is gay. He wouldn't have said it to Heavy D.

I fully expect the usual 'political correctness gone mad' comments now from people who don't think anyone can ever be sexist, racist or homophobic even to slight or subconscious degrees, and think anyone should be allowed to say what the heck they want without scrutiny. Such is the world today.

I'm in the US, so I'll throw in my two cents. I can understand why Frankie asked Bear if he was making a comment about his sexuality. When I was trying to make up my mind about it, I put it into this context: if someone (either male or female, straight or LGBT) on BBUS had addressed Frankie as "pussycat" during a heated discussion/argument, there would have been NO doubt (within the BB house and in the viewing public) that it was a crack about him being gay. Sure, there are more vulgar epithets out there, but in the US, this would have been seen as a dig at his sexual orientation.

Pussy or pussycat in the UK is an insult in the sense that the instigator regards that the other person is not a threat !

Being called a pussy cat isn't a homophobic slur in itself but as you say there are cutsey/girly connotations to it that would prevent a straight guy ever calling another straight man a pussy cat.

So Frankie was right to call him out on it.

Errrr, yes... And in that context it means someone's being a 'girl' i.e. feminine i.e. 'gay'. Pussy is slang for female private parts, for God's sake. And this is 'pussy cat', not just pussy - the connotation is even clearer as it'd be very rare for a man to use that term for anyone other than a woman.

I don't get what's so hard to understand about this. Would Bear have used the same term for Lewis or Heavy D? No. Was Frankie acting at all in a way to warrant special use of this term? No. Frankie is gay. That's the only reason this term was used. Again, I must point out that this doesn't make Bear homophobic. Just a thoughtless moron who automatically says what's bound to wind someone up the most. And it worked.

it's what i would call an 'infantalising slur' - would be equally patronizing to say to a woman. keeps women and gays in their place.

have to admit though that i laughed when Bear said 'if you wanna plays games with me boy, i'll play 'em better."

Bear is my fav HM along with Saira.

Well, that's a different term than is "pussycat." However, both of them are intended to be emasculating. And to use it against a homosexual man is, essentially, calling him not a man.

So yeah, definitely a slur.

But frankly, using any term to call a man something female, is degrading to that person, and to females. Because being female is not lesser than being male.

Nothing's lost on me.

I deserve no derision, certainly not from someone who thinks calling a man a "pussy" is okay.

Frankie didn't play that very well. He could have pulled the gay card out much sooner and shut the argument down there and then but he waited too long and got too angry.

There is undoubtably an argument for it being a homophobic slur. As a gay man myself, the first thing I thought when I heard Bear say it was 'would he call anyone else pussycat?' The answer, I believe, is no. Now I don't think it was a conscious thing on Bear's part, it was just a really ignorant stupid thing to say. But that's Bear in a nutshell - ignorant and stupid.
