In Bear's case I think there is something more pathalogical going on. It's as if his cognitive development, at least in some aspects, stopped at some point in early childhood. Behaviours such as imitation, inability to realise what is appropriate, attention seeking, lack of self awareness that are quite cute in a young child but are disturbing when they persist into adulthood.
