LG Television doesnt recognize usb video files
cas1977

Not sure if there is a solution to my problem........

But the problem is that i saved some videos i'd made on my galaxy grand phone and transferred them to a pen drive and everything transferred ok. Checked it on my computer etc - all ok and then later i inserted the pen drive into my tv and although the pen drive loaded fine, it said it didnt recognize the video files!?.....

So my question is - is there a way to rectify this by way of downloading another video player app etc? I dont suppose i would be able to change the tv format....

Any help will be received very gratefully!

Change the files to a type that the TV will recognise, you can download various file conversion programmes, or use the program you used to create them and save them in a different format.

What format are the video files in? My LG TV (approx 30 months old) happily plays MP4 files (recorded on my phone) and AVI files (DVD rips) without having to download any further codecs. The manual that came with the TV should explain what video file formats the TV is capable of playing.

Thanks for the replies, though I'm still none the wiser! I'm basically a real technophobe......

All I've done is simply record some family videos on my galaxy grand phone and i had thought it'd be all very basic. I haven't changed the format etc, and so I thought that because I'd be using the format that the phone had been installed with, then that particular format would then work on anything else....( i thought it'd be the same as having a universal type etc)

The videos I've saved on my pendrive work on a laptop, but not on the tv, and the same with videos I've copied to a DVD disc....they play fine on any computer or laptop, but nothing on a DVD player.

No idea what the format is called. I simply just use the video player already installed on my phone.

I think I'll have to study the manual tonight at home!.......yawn

Ok, I've just gone onto my phone and pressed details, and it tells me that it's: video/mp4

so maybe my tv just isn't compatible.....

it was funny, because the tv recognized the usb as i put it in, and three boxes came up with options; moves, photos, music, and i chose the movie square, and the videos I'd saved appeared on the screen, so at that point, everything was going fine, but then I noticed that instead of showing how long the video was, it just said 00:00 minutes (underneath each video), and after I pressed on one of the videos, it was then that it said video invalid.

There are a myriad of different video formats. It is relatively easy for a computer to play most formats as you can in most cases load a suitable codec to decode the file.

However DVD players playing Data disks and TVs playing files off USB drives are a very different matter. Very often the video codecs are hard coded into the firmware of the device. Which usually means they only support a small selection of common video formats. And there is usually no way to load additional codecs to cope with other formats. In fact it may require a complete update of the firmware to allow a device to support the new video format.

Imagine having to wipe your computer's hard drive and re-installing Windows from scratch every time you wanted to play a video format it didn't recognise and you get some idea of how difficult it can be with TVs etc.

What model TV is it? Would help us work out what video formats it can handle.

sorry, I'm a bit useless at all this marlarkey!.....All i know is it's a LG model and it's approx 4 years old, although I've just been doing some extensive googling, and it says basically what you've already said.....about all the different codecs etc, and the tv not recognizing them etc.

I didn't realize it'd be as difficult as it's turning out to be, and I don't think I want to start messing around with the formats etc, just in case I do something wrong ( which in my case would be extremely likely! )

I'll probably have to just buy a Tablet and have done with it. Allowing for the fact every Tablet has a USB connection and can play them....

You can find out the model from the main settings menu. Look for a Question mark icon which should be the Support menu. That should have a Product Info option which ought to tell you the model number.

Oh and don't be so very certain that a tablet will support the files either.

You've now made me very fearful.....that was my last hope!

Although I remain optimistic because both the dvds I've made plus the videos on the pendrive both work on my work computer plus on a laptop I've tried, so hopefully it'll be the same on a Tablet......

When you said you made a DVD, how did you actually make it?
I'm going to guess you just put the videos file on the dvd disc as if it were a data disc which is why the dvd player wont play them.

You could try using software like DVDFab DVD Creator to create a proper video dvd disc that will play on your dvd player - http://www.dvdfab.cn/dvd-creator.htm

I also just suggested on your other thread that if you have smart tv or even the likes of a smart tv device (chromecast, roku box, amazon fire stick/tv) that you could always 'cast' the video files from you phone to smart tv or device using a casting app - like AllCast, LocalCast, BubbleUPnP. This basically means you play them on your phone but these apps let to display them on your smart TV. There is a video on the allcast website show how there app works - www.allcast.io

There should be a sticker on the back that states the model number.

First make sure that the USB port on your LG television is used for displaying video, then check if the pen drive has been formatted to a particular file system such as FAT, FAT32 or NTFS. Also make sure that the file format is included into your LG television supported file format. If not, you can use a free video conversion app such as Handbrake or a third-party video converter app such as Pavtube Video Converter to convert that unsupported file format to LG Television pen drive supported file formats.
