Are you just cut n pasting stuff from the NowTV website?
No. This is from personal experience of using the now tv service and what I say is not copied unless otherwise stated.

It's ridiculous that I can buy a box with a 6 month entertainment pass cheaper than I can buy just the pass.

I don't need any more boxes (nor does anyone I know) but would like to purchase the pass at the lowest possible legitimate price without contributing to landfill!
I know what you mean but at least I have plenty of spare batteries for my remote controls rescued from the unwanted devices I've bought

EDIT:
And I have a few spare HDMI cables now too

Just buy a pass off Ebay. They're legit or the codes wouldn't work and/or listings would be getting pulled...

Indeed.

I suppose it's no different to Sky offering better deals to new customers rather than existing.

I've currently got three now tv boxes, sat un used, one used, one opened ( cling film stuff removed) and one factory fresh only opened to remove the pass.
Are they worth anything on their own? ( ie to sell on)

You could sideload Plex onto them then sell them on ebay, I've seen some chancers asking ridiculous money on there for a Now TV box with Plex already loaded on it.

But once plex is sideloaded, wouldnt it be wiped upon a reset of the box.
As far as i know the set up /wipe goes like this:

Plug in now TV box and create a now TV account user name/password/payment details, or add user name/password form current now TV account

box installs latest software

install channels

activate developer mode

install plex

Wipe/re-set box, all channels/user data removed ( including plex)

You could well be correct I only made a suggestion based on what I've seen some chancers try on ebay.

I personally wouldn't buy any device that someone else has opened up and modified, especially when personal account details are entered into that device.
Devices with Plex pre-installed or "fully loaded" Kodi boxes are included in my no go list.

As the first two generations of Now TV boxes are ridiculously cheap to buy I would harvest what I can from the packaging and bin the rest if I had no-one to give it away to, or I'd donate the package sans the voucher to a local charity shop.

I agree with you on the charity shop donation. Also cash converters or one of these shops that buy goods for money is another option. Any other ideas??

The rate at cash converters was just £4 for the black now tv box

Was this for all the extras with the box. HDMI Cable and Batteries. I guess if it is only £4. It is better than going in the bin or gathering dust in my back room.

The thing that does annoy me with now Tv is the amount of devices you can have registered at the same time is pretty limited and then you can't replace it for a certain amount of time.
i have no problem with them restricting the amount of devices it is used on at the time, like with Netflix you can have two devices being used at the same time, but you can register how many devices you want.

Now TV allows you to add up to four devices, I have the white box, the black box and my nexus 7 added, I can add one more, but then i have to wait for a certain amount of time to change it.

I totally agree with you, I have no issue with them restricting the devices they allow but the one change a month rule comes out of The Ark.

You can go on their live chat and get one of their reps to reset the allowance but its a pain in the backside.
To give an example I liked the new Freeview compatible box so much I went out and bought another one (it helped getting another 5 months entertainment pass with it ) to replace the old box in my bedroom, but as I'd already made one change this month for the first one I bought I had to spend 20-30 minutes on live chat to get the limit reset so that I could set up the second device.
I can't remember the exact wording the rep used but it went along the lines of I'm lucky and this one time her manager has made an exception and allowed her to do this.

If Sky really want to compete with Amazon and Netflix in the streaming market they need to bin this restriction and until they do stop such a condescending attitude within their CS.

100% agree. I am not planning to have now Tv on any more devices, but it is nice to have that option.

As for the new smart box, it do not seem to be selling very well, our local Tesco store have it at a clearance price, i did not see what price I was not looking that closely, Just saw the ticket to clear.

I am happy with the little box I have got, I do not need a Freeview tuner.

I was just intending g to buy a entertainment pass from Argos just to see mount pleasant and was not bothered about a new box as I intend to get a roku box soon but a new now tv box and 3 month pass was a penny cheaper than just a pass. So I might as well use the box until I get roku one and probs keep it as a spare. It looks like a roku box but does not have Google play, any idea why anyone?

The same reason it do not have Amazon or Netflix, Sky wants you to use the box for their service and to pay them. If Netflix produced a box I doubt they would have now TV on it.

I believe you can browse the Now Tv catalogue without a pass, and there's even a free trial on the movies and entertainment side of things, although for the free trial you need to create an account with credit card/payment details and then cancel soon after or else be charged.

I've just managed to pick up a 6 month pass form amazon for just under £20, with another now TV box for the collection thrown in, which means i am now on the entertainments pack for £3.33 per month for 12 months, together with a similar price for 4 months of movies ( and another box) for the equivalent of £4.75/month for 4 months.

There seems to be a board of smart boxes with each one haveing channels unique to one another. Pity they could not all offer same aps and people could make a choice based on box performance. The roku seems to offer the most, certainly seems only one offering both amazon and Google video

Why on earth have we all been paying Sky these huge subscription costs when Now tv provides this for a fraction of the cost? It makes you wonder why Sky launched Now tv in the first place. I have cancelled sky and will start using Now tv for Sky channels and films. I doubt I would have cancelled if Now tv was not available.

The now tV boxes with 6 months entertainment, or 4 months movies seem to fluctuate in price between just under £20 up to to £40
which equals £3.33 /month for entertainments
you can also buy a 5 month pass for £25, which is £5 per month, or just let the subscription roll for £6.99 per month

However the now Tv package is slightly more restrictive than full blown Sky, no recording ( unless youve got a separate box that can record from HDMI) limited channel choice and limited availability of most things on catch up of 28 days ( excluding box sets and specials)
not to mention the infuriating ability to only have 4 devices registered and no more than one device change a month.
So if you have a couple of TVs with a device such as a roku attached to each, a phone, laptop, desktop pc, tablet ( or any multiple of that in a household) you will be hitting the device limit.
An easier solution would be to limit the amount of simultaneous streams as per netflix.

I have just looked on E Bay and seen one month movie passes for 99p! There seemed to be hundreds available and the feedback suggests loads already sold. Where are these sellers getting all these cheap passes from? Im surprised Sky allow this.

Also what are people doing with all these now tv boxes they are buying in order to get the cheaper passes? Are they selling them on E bay or throwing them away? You only need so many boxes!

But you pay a lot more for a Roku than you do for a Sky now box. I presume Sky subsidises the price of the box to a certain degree.

my main devices are two roku units one roku stick and one roku3.
the now tv boxes are just sat in their packaging

It would be interesting and useful if there was a way to flash Roku firmware onto the Now TV units

I doubt it would be easy and then would you really have the functions of a Roku back?
i do notice that my now box comes up on my tablet with a cast option, but it don't work, strange that they did not disable this part altogether.,

I have got a black now TV box, my Blue-ray player that allows me to use Netflix, I got it when my PS3 died, I do have my Wii-U and i could have used that for Netflix, but I wanted a Blue-ray player.

I also got myself an audio chrome cats and now also got myself a video chrome cast, Audio is more useful. but the video one is also good.
