personally,I won't give NTV a second thought until they offer recording
Why, Netflix, Amazon both don't offer recording, it's basically a streaming service. If you want recording get SKY.

I've posted this in another thread but if you own a Now TV box Sky have today added a Sky Boz Office app to the app store so Golovkin vs Brook should be available tonight through Now TV as well as future Sky Box Office events

Tesco have reduced the new box again, this time to £35. I picked one up today and used some vouchers, so essentially it only cost me £21.50. The 5-month Entertainment pass alone is a bargain at that price. I'll set up the new box (not fully as there's no RF loop through and I have Freeview and BT TV already set up) but it's pretty superfluous.

As for the pass, I'll activate it around the time the next series of Modern Family starts on Sky One.

It's very interesting to read the comments about the passes. We got the Now TV box for basically the Sky Cinema, which is pretty good. One of the reasons why it is cheaper (than a Sky box) is apparently it's not HD, but honestly I can't see the difference. I think if your TV is a certain size and distance it doesn't make a difference, but I've seen other SD programmes, eg SD channels on Freeview, and you definitely can see it's poorer quality.

Really pleased with it. We only record the odd thing on a USB stick, and watch iPlayer, Netflix via a Sony blu-ray box which runs those things better. The only negative comment I have is it would be nice to be able to clear your viewed or part-viewed list.

NowTv is HD - but only 720p rather than 1080p I think

Yes 720p, although the newer boxes upscale to 1080p.

One thing I like about Now TV (on their own box) is that it's all 720p by default. No paying extra to get a decent picture as you have to on Sky.

Shame the freeview side was so poorly implemented though.

Reduced 'to clear'. So either there is a new one on the way or it isn't selling.

It'll be the latter. There's been no talk of yet another new box, and the current one feels as though it's not been out for five minutes. By all accounts that I've seen, the Smart Box has been a total flop. I've barely used mine, though I got an XBox One S around thesame time and quite like the Now TV app on there. Otherwise I'd be using the Smart Box considerably more (albeit without the Freeview capabilities)

Thanks for the couple of clarifications re 720p, 1080p etc. Maybe ours does upscale, anyway it looks very sharp.

Unlike Amazon and Netflix not all content on Now TV is available On Demand - this is most obvious with Sport - e.g. if you get home 20 minutes after the F1 qualifying has started then tough.

Also, with the Freeview enabled box not every channel is available On Demand.

Blocking Amazon Prime and Google Play Movies puts me off buying the Now TV Smart box - if a Roku one had been made available I'd probably have picked it up by now (my Streaming stick is very laggy).

This whole platform lock-in nonsense is a PITA - Netflix is available pretty much everywhere as they are a content provider only (NOW TV boxes being the big exception), but Amazon Prime doesn't work on Chromecast, Now TV doesn't work on a Fire TV stick etc, and while NOW TV support Chromecast the whole using two of your four devices just so you can watch it on the TV is madness = it's much easier to search and browse on you phone or tablet, but doing that uses up a licence key - argh! YouTube works brilliantly - search and browse on my phone - cast to the TV (EETV, Chromecast, Roku, or Fire TV stick*).... I wish these manufactures and "broadcasters" would take a leaf out of the Radio book - compete on content, work together on platform...

* When it works, pretty flaky TBH on the Fire TV Stick, but then it's pretty lousy anyway.
