why does he call himself this? Thought it was a bit strange when i first saw him that he had the same name as a legendary rapper (rip)..like a celebrity decided to start calling themselves LL cool J ..but i figured its probably just a nickname because he is fat and his name is dave or something…but the the other day he revealed his name is colin and i looked on google and his surname is newell
so what does the D stand for..

Perhaps they made it up for the Storage Hunters show? Make him sound more interesting?

I've never seen the UK version but on the US Storage Hunters which preceded it some of the 'stars' became pretty well known, especially for their nicknames and sayings. One guy subsequently even put his catchphrase on his fleet of business vans. But I don't think it has had quite the same impact in the UK.

I could go along with that.
What puzzles me though is that, in a different thread many moons ago, someone found his agency profile listing him as an Actor. Which for many, substantiates that Storage Hunters UK is total acted out fakery (though a mildly entertaining one at that depending on your cup of tea).

Based on that I figured he was in character on Storage Hunters, with all his BOOOMs and acting the fool to wind up the other "hunters". Yet in the house, he comes across with an identical persona. Which begs the question is he still in character in the BB house, or is he no real actor at all!

It wouldn't surprise me if he were an actor, albeit an out of work 'resting' one most of the time who does other jobs in between. Storage Hunters probably did cast some actors bit part players for the main roles as anyone can go to an auction. Maybe Colin dealt a bit in his spare time and had been to a few auctions which helped.. I dunno really because I haven't seen the UK version.

Even in the US one, which consists of mainly genuine dealers I am pretty sure that there were auditions etc. Reality TV is rarely raw reality any more (if it ever was).
