Considering all the furore at the time generated over the killing off of Danielle in April 2009, I found the whole Andy (Gareth) storyline of late extremely underwhelming by comparison - assuming it has now played out entirely when he seemingly left the Square behind in Monday's ep. on the advice of Ronnie. Also I think the appearance of the character and the whole storyline came a few years too late to have any impact on the majority of viewers from 7 years ago who had strongly invested in the Ronnie/Danielle storyline......and who were distraught to see it end the way it did.
In short though I think it was DTC's way of demonstrating to us that Ronnie had finally found peace in anything to do with Danielle (a character that he had originally created of course), shown up in the tame way that Andy (Gareth) and her reconciled matters. The real 'Andy' by the way was Danielle's adoptive father after Ronnie was forced to give her up for adoption at 14 by evil Dad Archie.....! History lesson over
