Her stint on that last show was like nearly 20 years ago. I think it's poor to use that against against her and say that it is the real her.

In what way is she bitter? I think they've all shown remarkable restraint in the face of the four chavs.

Maybe because she is still in the first year of grieving after loosing her partner of 16 years?
It's still relatively early days in the grieving process for Sam. They say that it takes a good 3 years to come to terms with the loss of a partner. I do think that maybe it is too soon for her to have to deal with this kind of nonsense, when she should maybe be getting her head together and focusing on her new relationship. However, maybe she felt it was the right time.
Having said that, I don't think she's joyless at all - I think she's just fed up with the antics of the stupid ones.

Of course she is. I think she's doing really well in that mad house. Everyone has a bad side anyway, it doesn't matter who you are, just curious to know why the OP needs to see the worst of people to be happy.

You may be right and the reason for her joylessness is that she recently lost her partner or that shes not enjoying herself in the house.
Fact remains though that she does appear joyless - which i feel is a shame, id prefer to see her laughing , smiling and having fun.
I think she's been fairly patient and chilled if you take into account who she is living with and bearing in mind most of them have all lost it at some point.
OP automatically ascribes 'bitterness' to any poor old crone unfortunate enough to still be breathing over 30 
Sam isn't the life and soul but she hasn't shown anything to demonstrate 'bitterness' either. Having said that, I don't like her as much as I thought I would, dunno why.
