Last night's highlights showed them going almost feral. Of course there are 'adults' present in this case, but the other HMs have no power to impose boundaries or to mete out punishments beyond expressing disapproval, which serves only to encourage.

Big Brother appears reluctant to step in except where rules are broken. There are no rules against nudity or consensual sex of course.

So this lot are behaving like a group of children pushing boundaries further and further, determined to antagonise, shedding the little self-respect they may have once possessed, glorying in their power and their ability to disrespect others with impunity.

It doesn't make for entertaining viewing [for me]. I like nothing more than a clash of personalities and some intrigue in BB but crudeness I can't enjoy.

One consolation though - we all know how Lord of the Flies ended.

I've heard of Lord Of The Flies but never read it, can you give me a brief run down of it and why CBB is like it please?

Think he has smashed it already as BB seems to be absent at the moment.

Kids on a plane in wartime (pretty sure the date's not specified), the plane crashes and they're stranded alone on an uninhabited island. Things quickly descend into anarchy without adult intervention, there's a lot that happens (seriously, read the book it's incredible) but ultimately a very small minority of logical kids get outcasted. The others become feral with the lack of authority and punishment. Culminates in the murder of two of the boys, the novel ends as the protagonist is about to be murdered, but they run into a navy officer who came to investigate a fire they set in the chase. Realising they're saved and back to normal again, they revert back to their societal selves and burst out crying.

The characters FM's are referring to are: Piggy who is an overweight boy who is outcasted, Jack is the charismatic leader of the choir boys and villain of the story (in terms of plot, but it's way deeper than that), Ralph is the level-headed leader of the outcast minority and protagonist, Simon is an enigmatic character who suffers from hallucinations, he's also a pretty blatant representation of Jesus Christ. (You'll get what I mean if you read it, and I'm also not suggesting for a second that any of these lot are like Jesus).

So yeah, match the housemates how you see fit.

Which was the whole point of my original post really, rather than likening individual personalities in the House to characters or symbols in the book. But hey, FMs are free to respond in whichever way they wish.

Every BB goes Lord of the Flies. It is a format that inherently rewards that.

Cheers for that, I can see the resemblance, sounds like the sort of book I would like to read and yes it's definitely CBB / BB all the way through!
