I hope I use the right words in describing my problem.

I have three TV's in my house all on Freeview, but not all of them receive the same mix of stations, even after updating, why is this?

Are all three TVs connected to the same aerial? Where is/are the aerial(s) located? If connected to a common aerial how is the signal split between the three TVs?

The most likely cause is a problem with how the signal gets from the aerial to the TVs. So the first thing to do is to check out the cabling, all connections, any amplification or splitters and the aerial itself.

Also TVs that are Freeview HD compatible will get channels that a non Freeview HD TV cannot, (NB an HD TV may not necessarily be a Freeview HD TV).

Having separate aerials is not necessarily the best way to feed separate TVs but then again it is not necessarily the worst either.

There are several reasons why separate aerials could result in different channels being received. The most obvious is that they point at different transmitters. Especially if one is pointing at a relay site and one at a main site. Most relay sites only carry a subset of the channels a full site carries.

Two aerials in close proximity can cause problems with reception that might affect some muxes worse than others. Loft mounting can also be problematic as there is often only one "sweet spot" where all the muxes are received equally well. Move the aerial even slightly off this spot and you can get all sorts of odd effects. Obviously two aerials cannot occupy the same physical space so one could easily end up in a less than optimal location.

And of course one aerial could simply be misaligned affecting proper reception of all muxes.

I have my main TV plugged into a communal aerial (I live in a small block of four story maisonettes) and the other two have single old fashioned free standing style aerial's that I position for the best signal, is it worth me investing? wouldn't I have wires all over the house connecting to the main one?

Indoor aerials only really work well in strong signal areas. They are compromised by both location (walls and floors attenuate the signal) and size, they don't gather much signal compared to a roof mounted aerial. All of which means that if the signal is a bit marginal the TV could simply ignore some muxes as being unusable.

Your best option would be to split the communal aerial feed and run cables to the other TVs. Assuming of course that it is not possible to get any more points installed from the communal system. If the signal from the communal system is strong enough you could get away with a passive splitter like this

Needs no power and the signal loss through the splitter should not be a problem with a strong enough signal.

If that is not a viable option your only other option is to get better aerials for the other TVs. One possible solution is a Log Periodic such as

These are a bit more compact than other outdoor type aerials and you might be able to hide it on top of a cupboard or whatever. It may work better than the average indoor type aerial.

I'm chuckling here. The lack of any really useful info in the OP......... Indoor aerial.... critical bit of info, that.

You realise if he(?) does go with an aerial splitter then he's probably going to try to use one of those crappy aerial extension kit things that can be bought from Argos and the DIY sheds because the cable is thin and a bit easier to conceal. Then next there'll be a whole new slew of posts about signal loss caused because that cable is really rubbish and very susceptible to picking up interference. If you're going to recommend a thin cable for easier indoor routing then WF65 shotgun is decent enough; just split the twin cable in to two singles and remember to recommend he gets the smaller bore F plugs.

One thing which might work is to take the sets using indoor aerials to the main TV, and plug the main aerial into each in turn, Then tune them. Then return them to their original locations and plug the indoor aerial in. At least then you can tell when the aerial is pointing in the best direction.

Incidentally, are the indoor aerials the boosted variety?

The aerial's used are "One For All DVB-T Digital Antenna" are these boosted one's? I don't know.

So far as I know, all boosted aerials plug into a mains socket. Does yours do that?

Firstly there is no such thing as a Digital Aerial, even less so a DVB-T Digital Aerial. Does that mean it doesn't receive the DVB-T2 Freeview HD channels? An aerial does not care what the signal it receives is as long as it is within the frequency band it is is designed to receive,

If they are those truly horrid loop jobs with a couple of telescopic aerials your best option is to find a friendly road roller and put them out of their misery. They are hopeless as TV aerials in my experience. Unless the TV transmitting mast is in your back garden they are not worth using.

The aerial linked to above by jsmith99 would be a better option if you can't live with the one I linked to earlier. In some instances a bit of damp string would work better than those awful One For All abominations.

Your right they are useless, the one's I have just plug into the back of the TV, I'll look at getting the aeriel you suggest, I haven't tried swopping the tv's round yet, thanks for your help
