I watched what I thought was Castaway, where about 15 people had to do daily challenges, they were pretty fierce challenges too, and a young woman won. I only remember watching that one show, since then I've seen people talk about Castaway but I think it's a different show. Do you know the one I'm talking about?

Don't know that one sorry, only the Castaway where they all went somewhere at the top of Scotland somewhere with no winner, I don't think there were winners as I stopped watching after a while.

I only really watch BB, tried others, more a case of channel hopping though.

I did like the reality show where the contestants got killed off they only had 1 season, was on about 3 years ago? Siberia or something

Did they only have one season because the camermen and the production team got killed off too?

I always thought the first 'modern' reality show was that learner drivers show 'Driving School' with Maureen - that's when it all really took off!

No - I think it was late 90s & BB didn't start until 2000.

Apparently the Big Brother concept stemmed from a real experiment where 8 people spent two years in a vivarium (in this case a specially built enclosed setting called Biosphere 2). It wasn't for reality TV but for science. It sounds really interesting. All kinds of arguments too place with some who started out as good friends becoming unable to stand each other. The scientists learned a lot about metabolism, ecology etc and I dare say, psychology.

Imagine if we'd had that on TV for two years!!!!

I always think of MTVs The Real World as the forerunner to Big Brother. It had several young people, from different walks of life brought together in a set up house.

There were differences, they were allowed to go out, work, and study, but in terms of the original BB it was also similar in many ways too.

I also watched The Family back in the day and remember never having seen anything like it on TV. Also they were from Reading (or Reddin) as it used to be pronounced in old Berkshire) which was near us, so we all were fascinated by it.

Seven up, wasn't it?

But the only one where we could watch people continuously (not anymore) was Big Brother. And the first one where we could decide (i think) on goings on.

the family was good, proper old 70s family, they don't make families like they used to in the 70s, you kids today, haven't lived unless you were part of a 70s family

I love Seven up - and all the subsequent 'ups'. They've reached 56 now I think.
