The lady I work for has 4 cats, 2 of which are named Steve and Patrick.

Last year I was looking at calendars and found a cat one; the cat for October was named Connor.

At the adoption centre where I got my cat, there were 2 cats together named Carol and Carl and another cat named Megan.

Sometimes people names work for pets, like Max, Sam, Bobbi, Charlie, or Daisy, but most times they seem an odd choice.

I used to know someone who had a cat called Dave. And some years ago I worked for an animal charity - one evening, a friend who worked as a pub chef phoned me and said that a very thin, hungry, old-looking cat was hanging around the kitchen door - I went to collect him and I named him Matthew, after my friend.

I've had several cats over the years - some have had human names and some have had cat names. For many years I had a cat called Thomas (named after Thomas Magnum) and also briefly took in a semi-feral cat which I named TC and another stray which I called Agatha (both named after characters in Magnum PI )

Had a Collie-x-GSD named 'George'

Picture from some old negatives I scanned.
He's between about 7 and 10 yrs in the picture, which dates it to the mid/late 70s

One of my cats (her usual name is Big) is nicknamed Dobby as well - I have no idea why really apart from the fact that it's a great name!

I knew a dog called Dave. My old cat was called Helen. My old neighbour had a horse called Ryan. When he died, she kept his ashes (well, some of them, I guess) in an urn on her mantelpiece.

I once had a pike called Eric, so it must actually be a popular name for pets.

Hi all,

The name I gave a squeaking little ball of fluff, in the car, on the way back from collecting him is Misha.

It is the Russian (I had a Russian GF, now my wife) diminutive of my name, Michael, not narcissistic/self absorbed at all here , and also, depending on the translation means 'blessed by god' (well he got me as his staff, how lucky can you get!)

The problem being with the name Misha everybody thought he was a girl moggy, and referred to him as 'she' or 'her'

Not good.

As his utter gitness, and total disregard for reasonable cat behaviour came to the fore, he was nicknamed The Beast.

When we try (unsuccessfully) to call him in during a rain or thunderstorm, or reprimand him directly for his gitness we call him Misha. But talking about him in the third person (catperson) he is called The Beast

Now everyone refers to him as The Beast, and says 'him' or 'he'

Back in the 80s, one of my friends had 3 goldfish, all named after politicians. I've forgotten one of the names, but I remember one was Maggie and one was Neil (after Neil Kinnock). Maggie outlived the other two and was eventually left swimming around the tank on her own - well she would, wouldn't she!

The same friend had a horse called Meg and now has another horse called Amelia.

I knew someone that called their cat Guess. They soon got fed up with it though, everywhere they went someone asked them what their cat was called and people would just spurt out names before being told that Guess is actually the name and not a question.

Is it shortened to Maggie? That seems a good pet name.
