I share your annoyance at imagined intolerance and allergies ( I have a life threatening allergy myself) but like I said, the structure of durum wheat is different and
some people can tolerate it. Spelt and rye too.
I am unaware that she claims to have Coeliac or IBS, and when she told Lewis her symptoms, it was obviously not something serious. If it was, she would be avidly checking labels and doing her own food.
I can understand why she would assume that all pasta was made from durum wheat, because until quite recently it was. And I think it should be!
Incidentally, the Morrisons cheapest packet of spaghetti at twenty pence is all durum wheat, but the Sainsburys, Asda and tesco are mixed with common or garden wheat-flour.
