Hi I'm due to fly to feurteventura on Thursday and was wondering if anyone could help.

Are the roaming charges charged per day every day whilst in Europe or only when you use you phone for calls , data texts etc?
.so if I used my phone 3 times for calls ( once a day ) woukd I be charged three lots of £4?

Also what are the charges for going over the data allowance?

I'm aware that Vodafone allow you to use your minutes and texts in your contract for a daily fee , just wondered if anyone knew how similar EE were?

I did Google it but it didn't give me much answers

What plan do you have? It all depends on that before anyone can answer.

If you're on one of the 4GEE extra plans with EU calls/texts then there's nothing to pay unless you use data. And you need to opt in for that, or data will be blocked until you buy an add-on. (You'll also have data blocked once you use your allowance, so no bill shock, but maybe a nasty request for more money!).

I assume for calls and texts on a plan without EU roaming, you just pay the normal rates?

http://ee.co.uk/roaming will help too. If you're on an Extra plan, your calls and texts are included. You would only then need a data bundle. Best value ones are £1 a day for 50MB data a day or £3 a day for 500MB data a day. Only charged for the days you use it - called Euro Data Pass. Call 150 and tell them which one you want.

If you have a Regular plan, you have 4 choices;

1) Just pay roaming rates - 4.4p/min to make calls, 1p/min to receive calls, 1.8p to send a text.
Data can be bought ad-hoc but not as good value.

2) Get a Talk and Text add-on. Costs £2 each day that you use it and you get unlimited mins and texts for that day. Data not included but can be bought ad-hoc. (This add on is only really suitable if you're going to spend your entire holiday talking on the phone due to the cheaper per-min rates these days)

3) Just get a Euro Data Pass for £3 a day. Doesn't include minutes or texts but gives 500MB data per day on the days it is used.

4) Get the Euro Pass that gives you unlimited minutes, texts and 500MB data for £4 a day.

Make sure you enable roaming too. Text roaming to 150 to see if it's enabled. I'm amazed how many people on the EE forum are abroad and find it doesn't work.

Having an EE Extra plan or adding a europass doesn't mean roaming is enabled.

I though this wasn't available, because I can't see it as an option on my EE Extra plan even if I set the app as being abroad. Do I need to call them to add that to my account?

No you do it when you are there. After you arrive, enable data roaming and open your Web browser on your phone. Try to go to a normal website (like bbc.co.uk) and you will be redirected to an EE page which gives you the addon options.

No no no!

You can't buy the Euro Data Pass that way. Needs to be put on before you go. The way you describe is for the ad-hoc data bundles. Not as good value.

Ugh... why do they have to be so terrible, and make everything far more complicated than it needs to be?

You can get the EURODATA pass added from abroad when you are away, by texting EURODATA to 150, I done this recently in the Republic of Ireland

It can take up to 24 hours to add it to your account, I wouldn't recommend trying to add/remove anything with EE unless it's not urgent.

I just texted EURODATA to 150 and the plan was added to my account in 10 minutes.

I've just done it, sent the text at 16:18 and got the confirmation at 16:20. So processed in 2 minutes.

Hi, from EE, your Euro Data Pass is ready to go. You'll only be charged on days you use data abroad in our Europe Zone, so there's no need to remove it when you get back to the UK.

Thankfully I don't have to faff with any of this - not going away until next August by which point roaming in the EU will be the same as at home - new regs kick in June next year

Just to let you know, I was able to add the £1 Euro data pass for 50MB a day, only for the days that I will be using data abroad. I am on an EE Extra plan. So all good

I did that by texting EURO to 150.

Thankfully in a few years we will be able to get rid of all this EU red tape and go back to roaming like in the good old days.

You mean back to buying local sims to avoid the £2 a minute call charges?

£10 per megabyte is a nice 'simplified' amount. No need to be unsure if you're going to pay little or lots when roaming - just always pay lots.

I doubt anything would change. Our mobile market is so competitive that the first network to jack prices up would face an avalanche of cancellations...

Of course that would never happen. However, if they all just do it at the same time...

I think either all carriers are fairly certain we won't finally make it out of the EU or they have agreed in secret to scrap inclusive EU roaming once we are out.

Well they would have Ofcom, CMA, Media and various Consumer Groups on their arse if they did. Now that the CMA and Ofcom have beared their teeth in respect of O2/Three, I have no doubt they will go to town on any of them that try to game the market and run a cartel.

It won't happen, once you have given something as part of a package, its very difficult to take it away.

Am I the only one seeing the irony of this message, bearing in mind your byline says you're glad we're leaving the E.U?

everything is full on irony at the moment, from people who refuse to see the need to have access to the single market so sell our main industry (services) to those who led the leave campaign while they themselves were EU migrants or are married to EU migrants or to are seeking German citizenship to their half-EU children.

I'm very sad.
