Agree with everything she said. But Dave Grohl still said it best and I think everyone should just quote him tbh:

Quote:
“When I think about kids watching a TV show like American Idol or The Voice , then they think, ‘Oh, okay, that’s how you become a musician, you stand in line for eight f****** hours with 800 people at a convention centre and then you sing your heart out for someone and then they tell you it’s not f****** good enough.’ Can you imagine? It’s destroying the next generation of musicians! Musicians should go to a yard sale and buy an old f****** drum set and get in their garage and just suck. And get their friends to come in and they’ll suck, too. And then they’ll f******* start playing and they’ll have the best time they’ve ever had in their lives and then all of a sudden they’ll become Nirvana. Because that’s exactly what happened with Nirvana. Just a bunch of guys that had some s***** old instruments and they got together and started playing some noisy-a** s***, and they became the biggest band in the world. That can happen again! You don’t need a f****** computer or the Internet or The Voice or American Idol.”

Whilst I don't disagree with the general sentiment of Hynde, Grohl, Dickinson, Osbourne, John (Elton) and every other musician that's ever come out with the same old clichés that TV talent shows are God-awful, I do take exception to the fact that they seem to be against it primarily because that's not the way they did it. It's all very well saying 'Just pick up a guitar and get some local gigs under your belt' etc, but what they rarely say is that for every singer or band that manages to achieve any level of success or fame that way, there are 1000's that don't. Try telling someone who's been gigging in tiny pubs and sending off demos left, right and centre to no avail for the last ten years that he'll be better off carrying on for another ten years, than by taking a shot at singing in front of record execs and millions of TV viewers. He might not win it. He might not necessarily want to win it. He also knows it's not about him, or his music, but the judges, but he doesn't care. All he wants is the chance to show what he can do to more than fifty people at a time. Is that so wrong?
