Yay another Your Love fan! That song is turning out to be my ADIDAS of this album, my surprise favorite outside of the lead single. Fans rave about No More Sad Songs but it hasnt stood out for me yet.
The other one surprising me is Freak. The tune is eh but its more interesting lyrically and in the phrasing than a lot of the main album for me. In a way it reminds me of Madhouse from the DNA album. |

And the verdict? "Nothing Else Matters" is cracking, the sort of tune that, if I didn't already know what it was, I'd have to hurriedly find out so as to add it to the collection, it's right up there with some of the edgy pop I've loved in prior years. "Your Love" is another early favourite. Bronze medal? Early days, but maybe "Private Show" just now... And the acoustic "Touch" is nice to have, I'm pleased to see something less 'produced' show off the ladies' vocal abilities a little more - though in fairness I am able tto remember back in the days of CD singles when acoustic/live performances would've been chucked on a B-side somewhere (Mansun, among others, did exactly that on occasion) Overall though, a fine pop LP: if you liked GW, get this on too. (I'll get the DVD a watch once the telly schedule's calmed down from its Christmas clutter...) Quote:

According to Buzzjack SOTMX was on 599,000 as of this past Friday, so a nice Platinum single to end the year on.

There's quite a few parallels between AOTGL and GD actually - went straight to number one, predominantly purple artwork... 2017's the 20th anniversary of AOTGL and the year we're expecting Paul Draper's solo album Spooky Action, though I can just listen to GD until that drops! |

I did manage to get a tip of the Mansun hat into the Get Weird thread as I recall - they were one of my favourite bands and Attack of the Grey Lantern is still the torch to which I hold all other albums up!

My best friend is a militant Little Mix fan and she made me listen to Power the other day.
What a racket. |

Little Mix’s Glory Days has reclaimed pole position on the final Official Albums Chart of 2016.
The group’s fourth studio collection returns to Number 1 today (December 30) for a third non-consecutive week. The album, Little Mix’s first chart-topping album, hasn’t left the Top 5 since its release in November. Glory Days, which includes the chart topping single Shout Out To My Ex, last month became the fastest-selling album by a British girl group since The Spice Girls’ Spiceworld (1997). Glory Days is also the first girl group album to log more than one week at Number 1 in the UK since Destiny’s Child’s Survivor, which logged four non-consecutive stints at the top across 2001/2002. #4 Touch #6 SOTMX bpi music @bpi_music The #Mixers have made sure that @LittleMix's year has ended on a high - 'Shout Out To My Ex' is now a Platinum single! #bpiAwards A #1 album and 2 singles in the Top 10 and another Platinum single. What a way to cap off the year. |

I can confirm that Little Mix album sales received a boost this week. On my way home from work tonight I had my annual sniff around in the sales at HMV and Head. Amongst a rock-heavy haul (Don Broco, Shura, Viola Beach and gannin' back later for Bastille and Twin Atlantic), I clocked DNA in the three-for-ten at Head (HMV had it in two-for-ten so at Head it was essentially free) and whilst Head had no Salute left whatsoever, HMV were knocking it out at a discount, four quid to you squire. The upshot: I've completed my LM archive! Years behind the curve, I know, but at the very start of 2016 I owned no Little Mix CDs at all, so the girls really have done well - the Wembley DVD underlining that the Mix can really kick it! It's taken longer than it should, but I can at last say it: today, I am a Mixer.

What will be really interesting to see is what positions in the chart of the year Shout Out to My Ex and Glory Days are.

Now the big question is the Brits. I think they announce nominees mid January?
LM are on tour with Ariana the day before and the day after at Madison Square Garden. I dont want them to cancel because its a life goal of theirs to perform there, plus that wouldnt look good to disappoint their American fans twice after the botched Salute tour in probably the most high profile shows. Fans want them to hop on a private jet but what kind of performance could they do being on tour in another country? |

My issue with The Brit Awards 2017 is that they're going to go OTT with the praise of UK Grime noise...I mean "music" because of the backlash a year ago.
That is, after all, the main reason why Skepta won the Mercury Music Prize. I don't care what anyone defending that award has to say. To me, it was clearly done to try and rectify a situation that didn't need to be rectified in the first place. When a grime artist does something of merit then I will give credit where credit is due. Rant over!!! ![]() Little Mix definitely deserve to win a Brit Award when you consider just how successful they are now. With One Direction on hiatus, maybe 2017 will be the year they win Best British Group, and maybe Best Single and Best Video. |

A bit late to the album discussion talk but Glory Days just edges Get Weird for me as my favourite LM album. There isn't a track on the album that I skip, whereas there's usually 1/2 on the others. It's been great to see their progress vocally over the course of the albums. LA has come on massively! Favourites for me (apart from the 2 singles) are Private Show, Nothing Else Matters and Power. As Oops is very likely the 3rd single, I'd go with NMSS as the 4th summer single. I'd also like Power to get a release - it's a bit thrown together and a marmite track but completely fits their personalities. For me, it'll go in a group with Nothing Feels Like You and Weird People as album tracks that should have been singles. Do you guys think SOTME will outsell Black Magic? Will either get to 1 million sales? I think Black Magic is on about 935k, so it's not that far away. |

Columbia moved back the US radio impact date by a week. Avoidance of a big star? Ed?
Per Buzzjack's LM sales thread UK Sales 965,000 Black Magic 653,500 Secret Love Song 640,703 SOTMX Looks like it will overtake everything eventually? Its still early in its lifecycle yet. Will it be slowed down now by the new 150:1 streaming ratio? |
