I think it's far more common than people would really know. I think many of us have pushed a parent to their limits as a child and usually it was enough to make us never go so far again. Suppose when it comes to sexuality though it's not something you've done 'wrong' so to be punished for it is even more damaging I feel.

Vic asked Robert last year if it was because of Jack too why he'd kept it hidden and he didn't respond then either.

I'll say when my mom flipped out at me it stuck for a very long time because it was about something I felt like I couldn't control. So it can be very hurtful.

Yeah I edited my post when I noticed.

Is this your sexuality you're talking about?

My parents didn't react at all really, I was 19 anyway and they had a 'it doesn't make a difference to us now lets just carry on as normal' attitude.

No I have a learning disability, which my mother was always blaming herself for. So one time I came home with some horrible marks and a note from the teacher. Mom was already stressed so she lost it and choked me. It happened once and never again. But this is a part of me so I felt at the time I couldn't change it and be the person who would make her happy. That stuck for a long time, because its not ever going to change.

I also have a learning disability one of the reasons why nursing didn't work out for me. My mum is still furious with my primary teachers that they didn't pick it up and give me extra help even through intermediate and college they didn't help me.

. That's awful. Im sure that left quite an impression, im not sure I could ever forget something like that. I suppose that it the type of thing Robert was going through (regardless of what people believe in terms of changing backstory etc), it's actually canon now and isn't something that definitely didn't/couldn't have happened anyway.

Mom is not into labels. Personally I think getting a label was the worst thing that could possibly happened. Because it became all about how mom perceived that.

my mum is sort of not into labels but she dosen't mind them. as with learning disabilities it is easier (imo) to know what you have to find a different tactic towards your learning.

I don't think it would happen today a lot has changed for the better with so many things. The 80's were a different world I think.

How is your Mum if you don't mind me asking.

I thought that was odd. I would have assumed they had perhaps needed a call of nature or even they were looking for something. Perhaps he was a gay policeman?

I like the fact they didn't sugarcoat what happened with paddy last year, the whole Jack thing doesn't seem like a great idea making him a child beating homophobe for someone so loved with cause a backlash ( Although probably true of a working class man Jacks age )

Robert did make it clear his dad wasn't “like that” - Robert had obviously forgiven him. Believe me, though, from personal experience, it isn't just working class men who have that problem. I don't normally find myself personally identifying with soap characters, but Robert saying “he did'nt want a son like me” had a personal resonance for me. Brilliant acting from Robert.

My feeling after tonight is that Paddy dies. He obviously doesn't like or trust Robert, and as we know the person is not deaded until Friday, it would give Paddy time for a deathbed blessing. I have always liked Paddy, but I felt tonight he was putting his own feelings before Aaron's happiness -he must see Aaron is the happiest he has ever been, throughout what has been a very troubled and lonely life. That ending would give Aaron both the happiness and sadness that suits his character so well. I can hear Paddy now to Robert: "Take care of him, my boy - he's all that I've got...or at least he is all I have got that I'm giving you"

Great episode couldn't fault it. I didn't like sinister appearance of Lachlan at the scrapyard like some malign little pixie, and I am sorry they allow the little scroat to survive. Obviously he is going to get away with the shooting, I hope they don't allow him to get away with blackmailing Robert. Perhaps his demise will be held over for the 45th anniversary stunt?. I envisage an ending on a par with James Cagney's White Heat (1949) where the psycho mother-loving no-good scum, “Cody Jarrett” climbs to the top of a gas tower and says “Made it ma, top of the world!” before getting blown up.

my mum has bad days and good day and just ok days. she is alright she is positive she wants people to know so they know she is not being rude if she forgets. she hates is when people go oh we all have Alzheimers (in a jokey way meaning as an excuse with an haha at the end of it) can't figure out the words to describe it. she gets frustrated when she can't remember something. she also has been forgetting to take her pills. and gets tired easily. but at least she has her art that she loves doing.

I am glad your Mum still manages to be positive and she has her art. I am sure your support means alot to her as well.

Regarding the new spoilers: My problem is (especially the Thursday and Friday) there is too much cliff involved lately. I am as sick of cliff as the BBC and South Yorkshire Police are!

It worries me somewhat that Robert's family are not mentioned. Could it be that he is in a coma again?

That is very true. Sadly, there still are parents who throw their sons out of the home if they discover they are "different".

Just this weekend I was reading an interview with Russell Tovey, who is a masculine gay actor, and he is 2 years younger than me, but it was amazing how his parents reaction was much like mine: hormone treatment to "cure" the problem, and anger when it was refused

Later, Chrissie fills in Lachlan on the danger to their inheritance and plots on how to defeat her sister Rebecca.

Chas asks after Moira. Charity brushes off Noah’s complaints and Cain’s stopped in his tracks when the police arrive to question him. Moira starts to defend Cain but does he already have an alibi? Liv comforts Noah about having a difficult mother. With the police gone Cain thanks Moira for sticking up for him but she tells him to hurry up and go. He realises there’s nothing between them now. Later in the backroom at the Woolpack, Cain suggests to Charity they leave for France early. Charity is surprised but pleased.

Frank offers to look after Johnny while Vanessa sees to an emergency. Soon Frank has arranged a playdate for him and Johnny with Megan and Eliza.

Wednesday 26th October:
Lawrence intercepts the DNA results in a hope to evade the inevitable but Ronnie assures him he needs to face the music. Lawrence stops his daughters fighting and hands the DNA results to Rebecca. She opens them and discovers…. Lawrence is her real Dad. Chrissie struggles to hide her jealousy. Rebecca decides she’s staying put.

As Charity packs for France Noah announces he’s going to live with Moira. Moira’s stunned when Noah bursts in and announces he’s living with her. Back at the Woolpack, Chas encourages Charity to talk to Noah and explain she and Cain need to get their home sorted before moving him. At the Woolpack, Chas hugs Cain goodbye. Noah tells Charity he never wants to see her again but Cain reassures her he’ll come around.*

Frank persuades Vanessa to let him look after Johnny for the day, not telling her it’s so he can meet Megan and Eliza.* But will Frank’s plan work?

Lisa’s excited for Belle visiting. Bailey’s concerned by her cough, however. Cain warns Bailey to be good to Belle.

Thursday 27th October:
Charity and Cain prepare to leave the village. But does Charity have some misgivings as she says goodbye to Moses. Ross is hard with her and she seems genuinely torn. Charity returns to the pub having said her goodbyes ready for her new life with Cain. Not long after the Dingles wave Cain and Charity off. On a country road they stop the car.. And Charity’s world falls apart.

Chrissie complains about Rebecca and Lawrence implores her to try with her. Meanwhile, Rebecca announces she wants to work for the business. Chrissie wants Lawrence to get rid of Rebecca but Lawrence refuses to take sides. Later, Chrissie offers to show Rebecca around the grounds, playing nice, the sisters seem to be bonding. But for how long?

Tracy returns from honeymoon and accidentally volunteers to have Frank to stay with her and David. Kerry gives Doug and Diane tickets to a talk in Leeds and persuades Bernice to throw a Halloween party in their absence. But will her plan work?

P2:
Devastated Charity’s world is in pieces as Cain refuses to leave with her. She screams at him to drive but he just can’t leave. He gets out of the car and gives her the keys telling her to say hi to Debbie. She begs him not to do this warning him he'll never see her or Debbie again, but he doesn’t turn around as he walks away. Charity is broken. She eventually drives away and Cain’s pained to see how much he’s hurt her.* Later, we see a heartbroken Charity rev the engine, with the car poised to go over the edge of a cliff...

Late, Lawrence tells Chrissie he’s made her and Rebecca co-managers of the business. Chrissie fumes and later reassures Lachlan she won’t let Rebecca win.

Joanie and Lisa are at loggerheads with causes Lisa to have a funny turn. Joanie is jealous of Zak’s attentiveness towards Lisa. Kerry plans her Halloween party still awkward around Dan.

Friday 28th October:
The police need to pull Cain’s car from the bottom of the lake..
BAD NEWS.* Zak’s surprised to see Cain back and Chas can’t believe he and Charity have split. Cain’s alarmed when the police arrive with news his car is at the bottom of a lake. He thinks Charity’s just acting up but the other fear the worst.

Bernice has Kerry doing all the dirty jobs so she can throw the party there. Kerry relishes the idea of making Dan jealous. Later Dan finds Kerry carving a pumpkin with Kyle. Amelia wants to join in and forces Dan to let her stay. She gets the pumpkin stuck on her head and he can’t help smiling. Could there be a thawing between Kerry and Dan?

Jai’s tetchy with Rakesh, who suggests relaunching Granny Clegg’s cordial with a video online. But will Priya agree?

I don't know why EM are si stupid enough to try and make out that Aaron is one of the most in danger characters and then release spoilers for the week after where his family are all involved of loads of other stories and clearly not mourning his death or beside themselves with worry cus he's in a bad way in hospital. You have Chas seemingly at the pub all the time judging by those Cain/Charity spoilers unless she's going to be here there and everywhere in those eps and even Liv gets involved with that as well. Let's say i'm more confused about this than most.....
