New Corrie opening titles (idea)
http://i68.tinypic.com/muue4m.jpg
Full size: http://oi68.tinypic.com/muue4m.jpg My idea for new Corrie titles showing off the new set! I think there would be slightly nicer angles but something like this would be really nice - with the OLD music! Anyone else like to see this? |

I like your idea. I dont think about the titles a lot when i'm watching it but I did prefer the previous ones with the old music and the shots over the rooftops.
I'm trying to think now if the cat is still in the titles, if not can it make a comeback?

Definitely, I'd have a cat slink across a wall in the ginnel shot where the Director credit is.

The final shot would of course have the customary tram going across the viaduct, as well!

I like those title shots far more than the current "peek out from behind an object without your glasses on" titles.
I want the titles to invite you onto the street and see the set in it's full glory. Also want them to be more similar to title sequences previously, as this was a complete departure. EastEnders has had pretty much the same visuals, enhanced over the years, since day one. It's that kind of iconic familiarity Corrie needs and one last shot of some chimneys doesn't cut it for me. But then I still long for Emmerdale to return to the sweeping views of the dales. |

I never watch the titles. They're the same every night. I prefer the programme.

I agree that the old music was better, but I've always loved the current title sequence. I hated the 2002 one as the street looked so dull and fake in it and while it was nice to see the streets around Coronation Street it annoyed me that they didn't look that way in the show itself. The 2010 one is moody, relaxing, almost dreamlike, perfectly setting the tone. The title shot of the rooftops is a refreshing change from that same shot they always ended on before.

I'm not sure how well this would work but they could do an overhead shot of the viaduct so we can see a bit of wider Weatherfield in the background before panning back down onto the street?

Coronations titles should be simple and easy enough to master, it's a journey across the roof tops of Weatherfield's terraced houses until we arrive on Coronation Street itself with some nice shots of the set. The current titles are fine but they're out of focus and don't have enough to them to make them interesting over any period of time.

I am a traditionalist and would like to see more of the rooftops and the street too, as that is the main focus of the programme, and where almost everything happens. (Oh and a proper cat shot too, as that is part of Corrie history)! |

I like your idea OP.
I know they look dated now but the wider shots of Weatherfield using CGI would also work without the shallow depth of field 'look' (if that's the correct term, of course) which has been present since 2010 when they upgraded to HD. This was my "effort" haha (sans music): https://youtu.be/u5TuMwNGVXw |

Oh definitely! I think that last shot would pan down slowly to where it is in the graphic from a view of wider Weatherfield (beyond the viaduct). They did this in tram crash week and it looked fantastic with the CGI additions.
I completely agree. I've added a bit of a blur effect here but obviously proper camera shots would add that too. For me it should be a fusion of the old titles with the pics of the street inviting you in and the glossy, slick blurred effect of now. Oh lucky you, obviously I made this thread because I prefer the opening titles to the programme itself. Sometimes I don't watch the show but just rewind the opening titles and watch them about 100 times. Thanks for your contribution. It's a fair point you make - I think in 15 years though CGI has advanced and the new titles can look less dull, show off the new set and also keep the glossiness/depth of field of the current set. I do really like the last rooftops shot of now too, but I'd rather lose that and see the set properly (and a bit of wider Weatherfield in the last shot), than keep it.

I really love these ones I found on Daily Motion. It would be better if it was video rather than pictures, but you get the idea. It hooks you, you see bits of the street, houses, it mentions Rovers and Weatherfield, has the cat, and mixes old with new.

I think the not watching titles post was meant as a humorous remark.

One thing that has bugged me so much, which I know is not that important in the grand scheme of things but nonetheless is annoying, is how the writer/director credits changed to the ITV font a few years back (2012 I think). Emmerdale continued to use its own font for them but for some weird reason Corrie changed. In this mock they go back to being in the Corrie font and look so much better for it.
If they also brought back a dark cobbled background / chimney rooftops for the end credits it would be perfect! But I don't think ITV allow custom end credit backgrounds and prefer their generic solution, which is bafflingly odd. I understand that the credits themselves need to fit in a certain size for credit squeezes but why the background can't be something else is beyond me. Emmerdale could have rolling hills of the countryside behind theirs, for example. EastEnders gets the Thames overhead for its end titles and also uses the correct font. |

I can see that the opening title shots are drawing us into Coronation Street from the surrounding area, but i personally don't like the blurred characters walking around.

(Oh and a proper cat shot too, as that is part of Corrie history)! Since the show isn't filmic or glossy, the titles being so glossy seems to strike a discordant note. Returning to the old style of shots of the rooftops and street, with a little bit of modern CGI to show wider Weatherfield at the end in the pan-down to the street scene, would be perfect. This, with the old music from pre-2010, would really be a dream come true. |

Okay everyone I know I probably need professional help (
) but I have turned the mock from the original post into an actual moving video... obviously not perfect (no tram, no cat, no CGI Weatherfield) but I did the best I could.Would love to hear thoughts. ![]() (link coming!) |

![]() New Corrie video titles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ovw2r3jaGE Here it is! I hope you like. I think this style of titles would be fab now with some even better shots than the ones I clubbed together. Would love to hear feedback on this! Shame about the Imperial War Museum but that would be CGI'd out and replaced with a tram in the real thing

They really need to bring it into the 21st century! I credited you, but look how much better it is with a punchier hook http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4ouvhl |
