I have a feeling, (and I may well be wrong) that James voted Aubrey because he was worried how his little chats with her were coming across.

He was either worried people may think he fancied her, or more likely, he could have been worried his WIFE may have thought he fancied her.

It definitely seemed like he was sending a bit of a message to the outside world with that nomination, and you could see it 100% wasn't intended for the rest of the house to see.
