I have just moved to Vodafone from EE and signed up to their new tariff that includes calls, texts and data when abroad in Europe which I think is a really good deal.

I put in a request to port my number across and am currently in Ireland (Eire). My number is meant to move across tomorrow to my new SIM. Has anyone any experience of this? A friend of mine is saying that it won't work etc and now I'm slightly worried! Although I think I have done this before and it was all ok.

Vodafone advise to never, ever do it.

I have witnessed a number getting royally screwed up when this was attempted. Again on Vodafone.

May only be a Vodafone problem but that's their official advice.

I would advise everyone to never even attempt to port a number in the UK with Vodafone!

Given they're the only network the require you to take SIM out, put back in, force connect to a competitor network, then force connect to Vodafone - to fix a missing 4G service ; it really takes the biscuit.

I wonder if they're still running that 1985 TACS system at the network core

Never heard that advice jchamier. A manual roam is the only thing that's officially advised.

That troubleshooting isn't exclusive to voda, it's used by EE as well for calls & signal issues.

Thanks all for the replies. The advice about not doing it is what my friend also told me.

However, just to update everyone that it transferred early this morning and thankfully seems to be working fine.
