Predictions for Arsenal away on Saturday?

We have a very good record there, and I just hope Conte has leaned a few home truths and does not play Ivanovic or Oscar. Fabregas has to play, and Alonso looked very good against Leicester. He has PL experience and should slot right in again.

Otherwise, we'll be looking at a draw at best.

With our defence the way it is, i will be surprised if Arsenal don't score at least 2 goals.
I will be happy with a draw.

The defence does look shaky, and both Cahill and Luiz made mistakes in the last game. Cahill especially is dwelling on the ball too much, and wanting too much time on the ball generally is something that sides who can play very fast football will pounce on.

Arsenal aren't that kind of side having said that, and with more time and space I think we can win as long as Fab' and Alonso are playing.

Prediction: Arsenal 1 v Chelsea 2

3 - 0 to Arsenal at h t. Woeful from Chelsea. Yet again, too slow, sloppy and there's something seriously wrong. Cahill very poor again and yet still starting, and the same with Ivanovic. OK, Terry and Zouma are out injured and not available, but when players are playing badly and still getting into the 1st 11, there's something wrong.

Arsenal are doing what Liverpool did, and pressing very quickly. All around a lot faster and more precise basically. You wonder what Chelsea are doing on the training pitch? No European games mid week, although there was the League cup.

Conte can't trun desperately slow, past it defenders into fast, mobile good ones.
Luiz is not, not has been and never will be good enough in a back four.
Obviously, a handful of games into a new season and already the title is gone and top four looking way beyond us. A mass clearout is obviously needed now, but to rebuild is going to cost mega millions. Sadly, the media will probably start getting the knives out for Conte, but we look as bad as we fud under Jose

Ivanovic and Cahill have looked dodgy in the past and Terry's past his best. Disagree about Luiz, and Zouma's heading back.

It was just very strange how poor, slow and disjointed the whole side where. It didn't look right, as if there's discontent behind the scenes.

Costa isolated again up front, and Batshuayi poor when through on goal again. Reinforcements are needed, agreed there.

Worryingly, Conte is already sounding a bit non plussed and talking about the team not being a team etc.
The players were so off the pace, from back to front
it made me question their desire and that there are done deep rooted problems within the squad that have been there for far too long.
Even Kante is starting to struggle. EEK!!!

Historically the owner has always put the players first, and the many managers at the club have won a lot of trophies, .. until now.

I'd agree that a mass clear out is needed. Look at Man City, Man Utd and Liverpool. A huge number of players have come and gone. Zabaleta at City was an Ivanovic type player who was dropped straight away when his performances dipped.

At Chelsea it's the opposite, and it's clear now that a number of players need dropping / selling. There's Ivanovic obviously, and also Cahill, Oscar, Pedro and Mikel.

The only problem is that Conte himself seems a bit off the pace. Playing far too deep, never risking a second striker in the starting line up, substitutions that are far too late, playing Ivanovic and Oscar when it's clear they aren't good enough and there are other players who can come in.

The future is looking very bleak at the moment. Let's be honest, the only match that was comfortably won was Burnley at home. The earlier games, there were narrow wins and big warning signs. And those big warning signs were ignored by the manager.

Overall, you know who the boss is at other clubs. The manager is clearly in charge. At Chelsea? There are players with a lot of influence who appear to be in charge, and when those players are way past their best, that's a recipe for disaster.

To me, Conte is afraid of dropping certain players because they hold so much sway at the club. I would demand axe wielding. It's the only way. Otherwise it will be a long, painful season, and managers at Chelsea don't get years to rebuild, they get weeks and a few months.

At the moment, Conte is far too slow to make the right decisions, and the squad doesn't appear to have confidence in his decision making and what he is asking them to do.

A lot of people criticised Rafa Benitez when he was manager. He is the only manager who successfully dropped JT and kept him dropped. I'm not saying that JT is the problem now, but at that time the manager had to make it clear that he and not any player or players was in charge, and that's what he did. Again, Antonio Conte appears too hesitant / too afraid to make those necessary changes.

Even over at Man Utd, credit to Mourhino, he rightly dropped Rooney. If only Allardyce would do the same.

With Zouma heading back, it's a perfect opportunity to try a genuine back three with JT, Zouma and Luiz. Forget Cahill.

Also maybe a second striker. Conte talked about the options before the season started, and now needs to show the boldness and confidence to carry out the changes, as opposed to what has always been done in past seasons.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Roman is ready to bankroll a rebuilding of the team if the current lot do not convince Conte they can challenge for trophies.
That sounds very much like Conte is going to be given time to get things right.

With any major moves regarding the new ground seemingly not being in the immediate future (its likely that our last season at the ground not being until the 18-19 season) there might be something in that.

Do you know what's still holding up the start of the rebuilding of the bridge. Is it still basically planning difficulties?
It's a pity the rebuilding of the ground isn't starting now. A couple of years rebuilding the team and have them ready to seriously challenge for the title again by the time the ground is ready.

From what I can tell mainly its down to the massive scale of the project, Last I heard we was at the 2nd consultation stage (where we would sit down with different people who would be affected, have a say in etc) in which we would have tried to solve any issues that came up from the first one, Being where we are with the surrounding areas (Tube,Train,Cemetery etc etc) it was always going to be a project with a chance of a timescale that was going to change a number of times and at a drop of a hat

Lets say for arguments sake that ends end of year or start of next then we can start getting planning permission and then the logistics of what happens can be put in place, If I was a betting man I would put Jan/Feb next year as when we will have a better idea of the timetable.

At the start of the talk of the new ground I think this season was mentioned as maybe being the last one but I always felt that widely optimistic. The trouble if we had started now is where we go during the rebuild, Wembley was of course the obvious choice but that would have more then likely meant a ground share with Spurs which for a number of reasons (both from a fans POV and logistic POV) might not have been ideal.

I don't think we need to rush it, Its a massive project and as we have seen with new grounds one that sometimes causes negativity. We need to get this 100% right so don't mind it taking that little bit longer if you consider its going to be our home hopefully for more then another 100 years a year or two longer is not really going to make that much of a difference, The key to this project is the communication with the fans (more so with CPO situation)

Isn't the situation with the CPO a bit ridiculous now? Originally, it was designed to stop an owner selling the prime site and dissolving the club wasn't it? While there have been a few negatives about the owner, I don't think anyone thinks he would actually do that. I.e. cash in on a prime site and then walk away.

Now the CPO seems to be just restricting a move for the club. Man Utd expanded many year ago and built a cash cow, Man City have done similar, as have Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham (on the way). Even West Ham are ahead of the club!

Surely the site is just too small to expand significantly and it would be better for the club to move. But I guess the CPO could block that. The latest plans look ridiculously cramped and a bit stupid to be honest. Plus, it would limit any future expansion. There's no way a new ground at the current site could ever be further expanded. Old Trafford and The Etihad on the other hand could be continually expanded as needs arose in the future.

When it comes to funds, I would have thought that Abramovich can comfortably afford to bankroll a revamp of the squad AND build a new ground anyway.

I've been saying for a while now we need to get rid of the hugely overrated Courtois. Stats in the Daily Mail now show he is actually the worst keeper in the Premiership.

Stat's show what ever the narrative you are trying to tell.

These "stats" are nothing more then a byproduct of today's vastly over-reported game.

They have nothing to report so to feed the media hungry fans they have created so they give them junk food to binge on (and the Daily Heil is the cheapest most nasty supplier of this type of junk food)

Hard stats in sport are massively more significant than someones personal opinion!
Which would you rather have. A centre forward who scores 30 goals a season or one that scores 6?
A keeper with a high saved per shots ratio or one that has the poorest saves per shots ratio?
A batsman who averages 55 or one that averages 35?
Can go on and on with hard stats in sports.

Stop being silly on this!

There could be something in the rumours that he'd favour a move to Spain again, but I think that blaming him for any demise is short sighted. Some fans go on about how good Cech was. At Arsenal he has looked terrible at times, not because he's suddenly a bad player but because the defence in front of him has been suspect.

In his prime Cech had a world class Terry in front of him, and at other times, Carvalho, Gallas, Alex and a good Cahill. Plus there was Makalele for quite a few years while Cech was building up his run of clean sheets. Look at what's in front of Courtois? A past his best Terry (he can still play well granted), a woeful Cahill, a woefull Ivanovic and a deep m'f that is still finding its feet. At times Matic can be brilliant, at other times just as woeful as Ivanovic and Cahill.

Those are the facts when you stop, take a backwards step and see the bigger picture.

Overall, as said a number of times the squad needs an overhaul, the football needs to be more positive and there needs to be less player power and more manager power. The board made a conscious decision many years ago to retain players while firing managers. That worked with Lampard, Drogba and others in their prime who were worth sacrificing managers for, but now it's just stupid, and it's clear that when a few players decide to down tools for petty reasons, the whole team follows suit, and there's nothing the manager can do.

Last week, what was going on? A sympathy party because Mikel was being left out? The player power situation at the club is now way, way out of hand.

Again its the narrative you are trying to tell.

You don't rate someone so are using stat's to back up the narrative.

If anyone is being "silly" its whoever (and I am not saying its you but the person who is writing the story) its whoever is saying Courtois is the worst keeper in the league. That is "silly".

Just out of interest, and in regards to the thread title, if I may ask, has it been decided just what "success" would be for Conte this season?

Finishing in the top four?

Winning a cup?

Winning the league?

Only I think once that has been cleared up, could we begin to try and think about of he will be a success or not.

Depend's on the owner and what happens between now a xmas.

At the moment, getting anywhere near the top 4 would be a massive success. If Conte manages to get the players playing his way and to the levels they should be playing then we should be single points from the winners

Courtois cannot be held responsible for the rubbish back four in front of him, but he is responsible for his own performances, and that is why the shots and saves percentage is such a telling stat.
Yes, our defence is not good so he's naturally going to have more work to do than Cech had, and is going to conceded more goals. But, the shot save ratio is as simple as that of one striker needing say an average of 15 chances per goal verses one who needs 7 chances per goal. Clear cut who is better.
