To be fair, the club has sold a few players recently. Djilobodji went for £8 million, Salah went for around £12 million and Marin was sold.
As someone said on this thread, It will take Conte time to fully assess the current squad, and weed out players who are just not going to do well in English football, and players who just didn't perform well last season because of other problems not related to football. If the board want to challenge for the PL having said that, Conte and the club need to make decisions fast, as opposed to waiting for the Winter transfer window. It's clear to me that Pedro is not comfortable and would be suited to a return to Spain. Maybe a deal could be done there bringing Rodriguez to the club. If Oscar isn't sold, and I doubt he will be, for me he's a squad player. Cuadrado was very good pre season but probably wants regular first team football. Echoes of Kevin De Bruyne there. |

Cuadrado is nothing at all like Kevin de Bruyne. KDB was a young player with a lot of potential when he was sold, Cuadrado is 28 and as good as he's ever likely to be (which isn't all that great).
You talk about players like Pedro not being suited to the EPL but then want to bring back Cuadrado who's even less suited. Laughable as always. |

Anyway, back to Conte. The more i see and hear from this guy the more impressed i am by him. There's no side or ego to him. Just fierce determination and a lot of open, honest common sense. It's good to be able to just concentrate on how the team is doing. On another note. I see that some pesky Bats could hold up the building of our new stadium. ![]() ps Tip top. Just blank the trolls. Eventually they will get tired of following you around baiting and insulting you. |

Agreed there Dixon, Conte looks very no nonsense and seems to know exactly what he's doing. No or little ego as well which is a big plus.
Today I was a bit mystified by Fabregas on the bench again, but the team played very smart and could have won by 6 or 7 comfortably. The main thing for me and the thing that impresses me a lot about the new look side is the variety. Last season the team was far too predictable. Now it's practically the opposite. Variety on corners, switching the play better, bursts of energy now and then, controlling the tempo, not pressing too much high up the pitch and wasting energy, etc, etc. Very smart. Kante is also a huge plus and his energy, tackling and quick distribution is world class. Terry must be ecstatic to have the protection he needs to play on this season. The trolls? I don't even notice them. Most people here are genuine.

I was saying last Xmas Kante should be our number one transfer target. I was a huge fan of Makalele but imho, Kante ihas more ability on the ball and is better than the mighty Claude.
Conte will also be aware that the play needs to be varied and not predictable. Rodriguez could be an alternative to Hazard as an outlet, as Willian is at the moment. Otherwise, we'll just see two or three players man marking Hazard every game. |

Kante's going to make a huge difference this season. Rodriguez hasn't done that well at Madrid but then again neither did Robben or Khedira and others. Madrid are a strange club in many ways, and he could do well over here. Conte will get the best out of most players, and there's a big improvement in Hazard because he's not being ask to track back all the time.

I was impressed by Willian. He's now added some end product to his game, making passes that count rather pass responsibility onto to others and just run round like a headless chicken every game.
We mustn't get too carried away by our start though. We've had a fairly easy start with the fixtures to date An interesting quote by Cahil re' the turn around: The defender went on to explain why there has been such a significant turnaround in fortunes from last season, giving credit to new head coach Antonio Conte. ‘We’ve added one or two quality players which is great but predominantly it’s the same players from last year, and when we won the league the season before. ‘The main thing for me is how fit and sharp we look, and the organisation in terms of where players need to be. I felt like last year we were all over the place at times. We’ve got discipline, we’re organised and we look fit. I’m in the best condition I’ve been for a long time. ‘The manager is adamant about the way he wants to play and that’s what everyone has to buy into. If everybody pulls in the right direction, nine out of 10 times you’ll succeed. The fitness and nutrition, things that people probably don’t see, is vitally important, especially in this league.’ http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest...ncing-win.html |

As Leicester showed last year, a big factor in winning the PL is all the players working hard and playing for each other. Man Utd scraped a win yesterday, and I'm not convinced mega stars and mega money is a good thing.
Top of the PL at the end of the season, I'm still going for: Chelsea Man City Arsenal Tottenham or Man Utd |

There's bound to be the odd person having a go at a successful person. Conte is essentially a winner who does not like second best. He was all out as a player, and he's very similar as a manager.
It's not so easy predicting transfers now because he's making players who looked finished last year look complete players now. Still not convinced by Ivanovic as a FB, and he's not that good as a CB either, although he's looking better than last year. Over the course of a full season, factoring in probable injuries, I'd still go for a CB. It's looking like Pedro, and / or Fabregas could be off. I'd keep Fabregas. He doesn't run a lot, but brings something different to the team, and makes a huge impact when required. |

I can see Ivanovic being exposed again when we face the best teams. He's been a great player for us, but he should have been moved on by now.
Defo need a young right back and CB. As for Conte reviving shot looking players. Yes, so far so good. But what happened last year was extremely strange and started on the pre season tours. I doubt we'll ever get to know the full story of what went down that year. |

Marcus Alonso looks like he's on his way at LB. I'm not convinced there. He doesn't look quick enough, and pace is a must in that position.

Don't know anything about him tbh, but yes, pace is crucial in that spot. What renains a bit dissapointing is the massive number of players we have out on loan, but none good enough for Chelsea atm. |

Can you give us a gist of what he said?
![]() He also said Conte's a bit bonkers - think we've worked that one out already! Conte was the sort of player that he is manager. Gives everything. Must be exhausted at the end of the game. |

He said he regretted taking the locker next to the door. It was right in Conte's half time water bottle throwing arc

Yes, he is very hyper. I said a while ago that while I love his energy, enthusiasm, and desire to win, he could do with calming down just a tad. But i guess that's just the way he is and how he gets the best out of himself. I'd much rather a Conte, than one of those dullards who sits taking notes all the match and barely get excited when his team scores or wins |

When Conte took over Juventus they hadn't won a Serie A title for 8 seasons and he went on to win 3 in a row, part of the current Juventus monopoly has a lot to do with the foundations Conte built.
I'd definitely rate him as a contender for the title this season. |

The start has been very promising, he seems to have turned around the performances from last season and got most of the players on the same page. Hazard is back in form and looking deadly everytime he gets the ball. Compare that to last season when he looked like he couldn't be arsed.
It seems Fabregas might be the big casualty though, not sure if he is a Conte type player or if he really fancys him. Title contenders? Probably, especially as they have few mid week distractions, but i still think City are the ones to watch and beat this season. Although Utd are looking strong too. Id put them 3rd favourites behind those two. |

We have to be realistic about the gulf in class between Juve & the rest of Serial A, and how competitive the EPL is.

Alonso confirmed as a much needed FB, and hopefully Luiz on his way back. He made the odd mistake, although has improved there, and as a ball player and a potential goal scorer, he is elite level. He fought very hard for the club, and would be a fantastic signing. Looking ahead for Europe, don't forget he also won the CL and EL while at the club. Plus he is cover for deep MF. In short, a bargain.
If there are any weaknesses in the signings, Conte is the coach to put them right, and fill the gaps. |
