Luiz is back!
It's confirmed: http://www.chelseafc.com/
The board need congratulating there. A PL / CL double is now a possibility in the not too distant future. mozza must be crying into his risotto..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTYmUZRbOVE Welcome back lad! I have to say that as part of a central two he gives me the willies every time the ball goes near him. Imho, the best and only way to use him is the way Rafa started to use him in his last few months in charge when he put him in front of the back four. |

I think people make too much of Luiz's defensive errors. Yes, he's prone to stupid mistakes, but there's so much more to the rest of his game.
He was included in the FIFA World Team of The Year at the 2014 Ballon do'r Awards. He helped PSG gain back to back trebles in Ligue 1 during the two seasons he was with them. He was named in the Ligue 1 team of the year on both occasions. He was in the Brazilian team that suffered the humiliating 0-7 thrashing by Germany, but that was a freakish result and may have done him some good. He will never want to experience anything like that again ! As I've said previously, when he was with Chelsea before I always preferred to see his name on the team sheet even with the possibility of some defensive gaffe. There's no reason to think he's gone backwards from what I've seen, so I'm looking foward to once again seeing the dynamism he can bring with his swashbuckling forays from the back. |

Perhaps the Risotto is too wet
I suspect that Mourinho couldn't give less of a sh*t about Luiz. Despite what the Liverpool fan would like to think. |

His attitude in that defeat to Germany did stink though. It looked like he gave up when they went 2 down, and that is unforgivable from a pro at any level, never mind the top level. Some in the media have said this is a panic buy and a sign that things are going wrong at Chelsea, with them not being able to bring in their number one choices. I'm not so sure about that. We got Kante, who is as good as signing as any team have made this summer, plus a couple of other decent ones. It's not like our rivals have gone out and got several great signings. It's getting tougher and tougher at the top end in every kind of way. The days when we could blow other clubs out of the water are long gone! But that's good for the Premiership and football as a whole imho. |

His joy in just playing is always great to see, and i loved having him as a Chelsea player, but his recklessness was very frustrating at times. He was better in front of the back four where his errors and recklessness were not as hurtful.

I was surprised we didn't have more competition to get his signature, perhaps the Raneiri connection helped ? He's just the player we've been looking for since the days of Makelele, I never thought we'd see anyone quite like him again.

Getting in early in the window with Kante might have helped as well. Before all the rest pulled their finger out!

Yes Utd was after him but I not sure he was on their 1st choice list. He knew he was a player we badly needed and the move to London etc suited him. We activated the transfer fee clause, Once that happened I don't think anyone else really wanted to get into a bidding war for him. It was just a very simple transfer to pull off one even we could not muck up |

I think because you got in there so early, that trigger in the release clause worked... prices in the market seemed to go up between june and August, he might have been £10 mill more by August! |

Top quality player to sit in front of the defence, break up the play and create.... Showed his class last season.

For example I think Bayshuayi was rushed forward because other teams had made him a priority so while we was looking at him the way the window was going we had to move him up the list |

Yes, Man City had already signed Gundogan ( great value if he stays fit) and they have Fernandinho who is underrated in my opinion. So I don't suppose they would have been in for Kante. Arsenal don't get into bidding wars, I'd love to play Arsene Wenger at poker, he'd fold anything less than a full house if you went all- in.
Bit surprised (and glad) that Man United didn't make a move for him though. |

I think against Germany he was just shell shocked along with the rest of the team, Brazil disintegrated before our eyes. But Brazil were a disjointed mess of a team in that tournament, a result like that was just waiting to happen. We've seen Luiz play some great games since then, including against Chelsea.

He might be one of those players who's mistakes were exagerrated! Anyway, his return means Mikel is being pushed further and further out of the picture, so that's fine by me! |

A very good article by Pat Nevin who is a decent analyst and a big fan of the club:
http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest...d-is-back.html I agree that some of Luiz's mistakes have been way over exaggerated. One pundit on Match of the Day described him as a liability and someone who can't defend. That pundit has a limited knowledge of football imo. His defending is outstanding a lot of the time and overlooked, especially his interceptions. Luiz is a massive player and a winner. He won BIG trophies (not the League cup) at Chelsea, and won the treble TWICE at PSG. At the world cup he was exposed a bit, and that was Scolari's fault. He had very little cover in front of him, and tactically that was very poor decision making. He gets drawn into forward positions because he is so good in forward positions. Some of his goals are goals that world class strikers would be proud of. At Chelsea he has got a world class coach and tactician who is equally as committed to winning, and he has very good defensive midfielders around him now, especially Kante. If he was bought as just a CB, there would be a slight question mark. He is not comfortable playing that position all the time because he is so good getting forward. He is a utility player, who can play very well at CB but who can also be used in any defensive position and in any central midfield position, as big Pat says. |

Thanks for that article.
I"all always have a soft spot for Nevin. It was the Nevin, Dixon and Speedie era when i started to go and watch Chelsea. I also remember Paul Cannoville saying it was the likes of Pat and Kerry who helped him get through the times when the disgusting Chelsea Nazis were trying to drive him away with their racist filth. |
