Sam the scab: In a scene that surely encapsulates the ideological debates of the 1980s better than any other, she broke through the picket line of striking print workers at News International's headquarters in Wapping, east London, in a tank.

I agree. In her day, she was a household name with a level of fame most in the house would kill for. She was the 80's equivalent of Cheryl Cole (but with her tits out) - the media designated her 'the nations sweetheart' and she was very good at playing along.
However, she's been out of the public eye for many years now but seems to expect the GBP to still be holding a torch for her after all these years. I do think she expected to sail into the final and can't quite believe the cheek of those she sees as not up to her level daring to nominate her, Our Sam

The military vehicle had been summoned by the Sun newspaper in order to transport their big-busted page-three girl, Samantha Fox, inside the wire for a photo call. Not long afterwards the resulting picture was splashed across the front page of the Sun. The ‘story’ read:
EYES FRONT! Sexy soldier Sam Fox inspects her loyal troops in the war of Wapping. Bravely pointing her bazookas at the enemy lines, she advanced on the Sun’s besieged new offices yesterday. And repelling print union pickets, she thrust forward in an armoured truck to inspect our troops. The lads’ eyes really lit up at the Wapping front. http://www.lrb.co.uk/v08/n04/sean-french/diary

Pretending Sam Fox is obscure?? Thought I'd seen it all on this forum. Maybe to generation snowflake she's unknown, but you'd struggle to find a grown up that hasn't heard of her, and she's never been a portrayed in a negative light.
Who the hell had (honestly) heard of Stephen Bear before CBB made him famous? No one that I know. I agree that Bear, Marnie, Lewis ect aren't household names like Sam was, they are only known to the people who watch the shows they feature in. |

She seems to have been very famous in the 80s but I think a lot of people under 35 have never heard of her as her music hasn't left much of a legacy and she hasn't been in the public eye much since then.

Knowing Sam's name and actually liking her, are two very different things.

Clearly this aspect of Our Sam is fresh news to a number of people. And I want her evicted from the game show. So I'll keep spreading the news until she is evicted.

No way are Bear and Lewis as well known to their generation as Sam Fox was to hers.
Absolutely no chance. ![]() Quote:

Fundamentally, Bear's nomination reason for selecting Sam, her sitting on the fence and not expressing her opinions enough, boils down to Bear saying quite rightly that "our Sam" isn't doing enough to earn her fee in there. Whilst Bear, with his never-ending impressivley spontaneous skills at the art of Play, clearly more than earns his fees in there

What it's ignorant for people over 35 to say they have never heard of Sam Fox? Maybe they don't read newspapers with a reading age of 8, don't listen to crap Euro type music and aren't into reality TV. Well I'll give you the last one however I don't even remember her in IAC so

The circulation of the Sun meant she was known by many more than the audience figures for EOTB or TOWIE but the reason for which she was famous is on a par IE getting your bits out for public delectation. Though to be fair to Lewis and Bear there is a bit more to what they do than that

She was complicit in a industry that back in the day had zero respect for women
so when she criticized Chloe for pole dancing topless it was not out of any moral standards it was nothing more than bitter jealous rant and do me a favour The Sun was and never will be a family paper it is a despicable rag |

You'd have had to be a total ignoramus or a liar to say you'd never heard of Sam Fox if you're over 35. You're talking about a time when there was virtually no sexual content whatsoever on tv, there was no internet porn because there were no computers, so a pair of tits in a national paper every day was quite a big deal when it first appeared. Everyone knew that. Sam Fox being the most well-known page 3 girl doesnt mean you had to read the flippin' Sun to know that. As I said EVERYONE who was teenage or older in the 80s knows about Sam Fox. Whether you're ashamed to admit that is a different matter.

I cannot stand the woman! She is so full of herself, and seems to think that she's still somebody special. Her claim to fame was over 30 years ago, and she was off the radar until she entered the house.
Bear and Lewis are so right about her. She has to go on Friday. Like many 1980s singers she still has a massive fanbase in Asia. |

I don't mind Sam and there's no denying her level of fame certainly between middle aged and older people but her grandiose comments tonight were absolutely embarrassing. "Our Sam" indeed. I think only the Sun newspaper ever called her that and that was because she was contracted to get her tits out for them on a regular basis. Truth is her big ego took a knock tonight being nominated and she handled it abysmally. Silly woman.
Plus I remember seeing her on some wierd reality show a few years back where "celebs" would run a bar. She ended up getting wasted and making a fool of herself then too. She wasnt refered to as "Our Sam" at the time - she was more of a laughing stock. To be fair I dont mind her, but I did giggle when I think Heavy compared Chloe getting her boobs out to what Sam used to do. "WHAT I DID WAS FACKING ART MATE!!" I just had visions of builders up and down the country taking Picassos into portaloos during 'breaks'. |
