Why did Renee think it was Ricky's responsibility to remove the women from the situation when Lewis snd Heavy D were getting aggressive. Strong independent women that they are they could remove themselves if they needed to.

So gone down in my estimation!

I hate when men do it but it's especially gross whenever women infantilise each other. Marnie and Katie have feet and could walk away.

I imagine this is what Renee meant when she said 'fly under the radar'.

I felt she was dismissive over Ricky's explanation for why he doesn't get involved in arguments.

I think she was highlighting the change in Ricky.
When Heavy attacked Chloe, Ricky stepped in and defended her and tackled Heavy. He also had a big argument with Bear when Bear had upset Katie. The fact that Ricky and Sam both sat and listened to Heavy's nasty, unprovoked attack on Katie, without saying a word, isn't good. I think this is what led to both Renee and Katie nominating him. I can't understand why both of them didn't join Marnie and tell Heavy to pipe down or to get hold of Katie and all move away to show support for her, against Heavy. Katie showed she was a strong, independent woman, who could handle the situation, but it would have been nice to have had some back up.

Yes I agree. it seems any chap who conducts himself in a half decent manner ( aka normally) is supposed to turn full knight in shining armour and defend her honour. She will be demanding he lays his coat down over puddles for her next.

You know I think he would have been berated if he had stepped in, in Katies defence. She was more than holding her own and if he had started shouting the odds too I think it would have undermined her. Plus he would have been accused of riding on her coat tails and hi jacking a scene to make it all about him. I think he has conducted himself pretty darned well in there overall.

Maybe. I agree he shouldn't have jumped in and taken over the situation, but he could have registered his support. It went too far and was clearly upsetting for Katie. If Sam, Marnie and Ricky had all told him to shut up alongside Katie, it would not have progressed to such a nasty level. I think the point is more about how Ricky has changed. He would have stepped in at the beginning of the series. Maybe he didn't because he was aware that Katie was not being particularly loyal to him, by talking about him behind his back. I feel for him, because he doesn't seem to have anyone to be close to in the house, except Aubrey.

Katie seemed to enjoy her time in the spotlight, she took the bait quick enough. She would probably have told Ricky to butt out.

Tbf, he's probably drained by it all. Sometimes he just looks resigned.

I don't think it's been good for most of them tbh and they're all exhausted with it. Resigned is a good word, you can only fight for what you think is right for so long.
I'm not a massive Ricky fan but he's definitely been beaten by the unstoppable team of BB and Bear.

That's how I view it too. Now a man who minds his own business and doesn't get involved in shouting matches is berated for not bein "gentlemanly" enough. (paraphrasing)

Those women in there are more than capable of taking care of themselves.

Renee was bang out of order with her little lecture. I've gone off her if I'm honest.

Renee is from some ****ed up, gangland world where being a bank robber who pulls a $5m job makes her go glassy eyed with pride at what a man he is, don't listen to her codswallop

She was quite dismissive and didn't really listen.

Like I said, I'm not always a fan of how Ricky goes about articulating himself but what he stands for is solid.

Renee just doesn't respect him I think. She's used to blokes wading in being all alpha male but Ricky has nothing to prove to Renee.

a 'real man' to Renee is one that doesn't mind spending years in chokey, leaving the responsibility of putting the kids food on the table to the missus

I like Renee in some strange way but Ricky's point was very valid!

I took it to mean he'd had some issues regarding either getting too involved in other peoples problems and got worked up about them or
He had some problems with anger and he'd had to find ways of dealing with it!
I'm sure if Katie had not been handling it he would have helped Heavy D into the diary room!
I'm sure he knows you can't telly heavy or bear wht to do!
Would imagine the background of dominant men influences her a little!
Notice no one expects bear to come to the rescue!

I didn't blame her for that as it sounded like an excuse rather than a legitimate decision. If I was Ricky I wouldn't have done her the favour of explaining myself to her. It is not up to her how people conduct themselves and it's certainly not up to her to patronise the women of the house.

Sadly though Ricky is being Mr Nice guy so had to give her old fashioned and very one sided view of things the time of day. I don't want fisticuffs in there a la Lewis or wind ups a la Bear and Heavy but I would like someone with a voice to let Renee know that her sexist views and slavering over Bear isn't tolerated by all of them and her way of shouting louder back isn't the best or only way to carry on.

Not much sympathy for Ricky, at least re Renee. He wanted to be Mama's boy and now he's (predictably) disappointed her. Should have known better and been his own man.
